Dash cam solution for wiring.

Post by Scubaregs » Tue Jul 06, 2021 9:25 pm

Does the G29 only have one cig. light socket, if so anyone got a neat solution for running and hiding the power supply for the dasah cam?

Alternatively, anyone got a neat hardwire solution?

Cheers.

I have a cable which plugs into the OBD port and runs behind the trim up the door frame and over the screen to my dashcam. Works great. Mine has a switch on it which allows the dashcam to power down when parked and causes no drain on the car after the OBD shuts off (a few mins after leaving the car) Simple solution

Cheers, looks a good solution. Managed to run from cig lighter and tuck in behind pillar after tucking in along top of drivers footwell.

Dash cam solution for wiring.

Whilst cleaning the inside of the windscreen I noticed a wire protruding from behind the interior mirror with a mini-usb plug on the end. Never noticed it before, so guess it has worked itself loose and became visible. No idea why it’s there; it’s obviously OEM. I can’t find anything it might have been plugged into.
A mystery.
Any ideas?

Most likely a dashcam power lead, which won't be OEM.

This came up and frankly this looks like the best dashcam when it launches.

Thoughts?

Found this on a different forum. Fitted a garmin mini 2 with a hardwire kit following this solution. Sorry no photos of my install.
