Probably a silly question about OBD socket
I'll start by saying that I'm not the slightest bit technical but I read that I could get rid of the awful exhaust note using Bimmercode and an OBD adaptor.
There are several adaptors on Amazon starting with a Vgate at £25.99 but reading the manual it states that "Devices connected to the OBD socket trigger the alarm system when the vehicle is locked. Re‐move any devices connected to the OBD socket before locking the vehicle.
Does one use the OBD adaptor to change the coding and then remove it with job done or do I have to take it out every time I leave the car and put it back in next time.
Thanks

Ian, the normal process is you use the adapter to carry out the change then remove. You don’t need to plug it in again until you want to use it for something else

be careful to buy the correct adapter some of them wont work with bimmercode or the car.
You can have a look on their site for the models they suggest then look on google for the cheapest place to buy one of those
https://bimmercode.app/adapters/
I'm also looking into buying one, because want to modify the interior lighting colors

Oops too late. I bought the Vgate from Amazon which isn't on the Bimmercode approved list but they claim that it works with it. It's due to arrive today so I'll soon find out and if it doesn't work I'll send it back

I've tried several times but I cannot get it to work. It seems to pair to my phone but I can't get it to connect to Bimmercode. I'll give it another try tomorrow and if I can't get it to work I'll send the adaptor back to Amazon

I've given up and sent the adaptor back to Amazon but unfortunately I've wasted the money on Bimmercode which is of no use without an adaptor.
I contacted Sytners to see if they would do it for me but they said they wouldn't but a local indie specialist said they would try. What a waste of money just to get the obnoxious exhaust noise turned off.
I've had a couple of V8 cars and their exhaust notes were a wonder to behold but this is just awful

What model year did you use/ do you have? I think if its not a first edition you need to use 2020 even when it was made in 2019 to be able to connect.Ian J wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 11:19 am I've given up and sent the adaptor back to Amazon but unfortunately I've wasted the money on Bimmercode which is of no use without an adaptor.

Can you not change the active sound design noise from a menu on the G29?

The car is three weeks old but Bimmercode didn't ask the question

Unfortunately not. Stupid isn't it as that's the sort of thing that one should be able to disable easily.
I have a two hour run down the motorway on Saturday and will probably end up with a headache by the time I get there. Whilst a glorious exhaust note is wonderful to listen to this artificial racket isn't

Strange I was led to believe it was a user selectable item ?Ian J wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 7:22 pmUnfortunately not. Stupid isn't it as that's the sort of thing that one should be able to disable easily.

It can be coded out using a product like ISTA or Bimmergeeks Protool I believe..

Ian, as discussed previously during handover we had an appointment with the BMW Genuis and he said as long as the car was under warranty we had access to him if we needed anything. I presume you have the same facility so it might be worth getting in touch and asking if it is a user switchable option as Peter asks??
