Replacing wind deflector mesh - quick guide.

Post by yipikayee » Sat May 29, 2021 11:56 am

Hi

I thought i will share couple of pics i took while working on the wind deflector. As we all know, complete set is crazy money so i found one with damaged mesh for fraction of the price and repalced it.

apart from the huge hole seen on the pic, deflector is in mint condition. Set inluded all mounts, screws brackets and even a loops with pre drilled holes.

comparison of the oem material, and mosquito net i got online.
OEM is very soft, fine and thick.
the mesh i got is very syntetic in feel and gaps are much larger, but since i never had oem deflector in hand i just spend the 5£ on the material i found and in case i wont like it i can always replace it again.

mesh is hold together by the rubber seal, its just tucked under all around and on the shorter edges there are two places each side where mesh is glued to the frame. i juat pulled it of like seen on next pic.

the only moving parts here are them small metal pieces that lock deflector in position when mounted on car. dont loose them ;) also just above there is plastic pin on a spring, spring catching the metal part visible on the picture, dont loose them too.

the rubber seal is not a loop(at least mine) its one piece and its both ends meets in the middle on the top of the frame. i started putting new mesh in from the top corner and worked my way around.

whatever excess material after fitting it around with seal i used stanley knife and cut it around. try not to scratch the frame with the knife nor to cut too hard and damage the seal

after cutting all around just go over the seal again and make sure its fitted. the softer material than mine wont make that much resistance to fit the seal. i had no creasings on the material at all on first go so you should be fine too :)
