I only see the following in Firefox:

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

???
It doesn't 'run' anything per se, it's a fiendishly clever box of tricks, developed by Robbi (and his minions  ) to diagnose any issue with the roof on the E89 by monitoring the sequences of every switch, relay etc.
Knowing the Germans' propensity for engineering perfection I suspect it will also make you a coffee while you wait. :D

Robbi, echoing others, this is brilliant work indeed. Wunderbar!

I’ve been reading your advices here and elsewhere. You say all roofs eventually fail. Would you advise to preemptively replace all parts that normally fail? How long would them last? Or wait until the failures pop up?

You’ve also offered to travel. (California is beautiful this time of the year.) It’d be great to understand how much that would cost.

Thanks.

Marc.

You always have to consider that a sensor can not only fail completely, but can also change its switching state with a delay. The CTM always checks the timing as well.

In the following chart, you'll see an unexpected delay of about 1-2 seconds.

Another interesting result of my Y3 Roof Diagnostic System is the following:

The CTM sends a short current pulse to all the relays and solenoids before starting a roof operation.

⌛Y3 Roof Diagnostic System (for all BMW convertible & roadster)

I have my roof stuck in the closed condition.
Last winter I discovered a flooded battery well which I dried out. The sponge was sodden. I removed the pump motor which was full of black water and cleaned and dried it. I topped up the fluid reservoir and luckily this seemed to cure the problem after a few cycles to bleed the hydraulics.

This spring I checked for water and the sponge cradle was damp, blut the motor was ok. The roof opened ok but now I can't close it. You just get the dong and the red roof symbol on the dash. I have removed and checked the salmon relays which seem to work ok. I noticed they are different pin connections from standard relays so you have to buy the BMW item😒

Is there anything else I can check? It's a bit difficult to check anything with the roof stuck in the boot.

Can you read the roof fault code(s) from the OBDII port either using something like the Ancel BM700 tool or an app like Protools or Carly with the appropriate OBDII Bluetooth adapter?
When the fun stops, you know what to do...

Have you looked at the guides on here? They will give you a good idea what’s involved - use the search function.
