Cafes and Pubs for Petrolheads and Motor Museums

I'm going to have some time available this summer. In short, after the write off that was 2020, I saved up as much as I could and have decided to quit my job and enjoy life for a few months then figure things out later this year.

There's a few car-themed places I'd like to visit and I'm hoping that there'll be enough interest to have some mini-meets at them. Ideally I'm looking for places like these that are up to about two hours from Stafford (but I'm pretty flexible):

Further away:

A couple of questions:
  1. Are there any that I'm missing? If you have suggestions, please let me know and I'll update the list.
  2. Who's interested in some small meets centred around any of these places? We could combine a visit with an organized drive.

If this generates interest then I will prioritize the visits based on the responses and try to post in the Meets/Events/Road Trips section to organize them properly.

I don't finish work until mid-July but I have some annual leave left to take. I'm trying to time everything with restrictions gradually easing and receiving vaccinations.

Let me know what you think! :driving:

Super Sausage, A5, NN12 7QD. Had a meet there once when I was a Porsche owner.

Not to be confused with Super Sausage 2 in Northampton.

Bit further afield, but I have organised two meetings for this year, the Z4 day at the Ace cafe, in September.
And the other one is a breakfast meet at the AV8 cafe, on June.
Both are posted on here.

I just googled this to make sure it wasn’t a leather and denim bar, I can confirm it is a cafeteria.

Thanks - I was interested in the AV8 meet in June but unfortunately I can't make the 13th.

There’s also the monthly meet at Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford near Yeovil, Somerset

It’s the first Sunday of every month. A large gathering of cars and various breakfasts available

Shelsley Hill Climb have various events on through the year. Not as popular as places such as C&M and long may that continue. If you go when they’re racing cars up the hill, it’s hands down better than any of the other offerings.

Bicester are having a Scramble on 5 & 6 June, but I don't know if they have any places left.

It's much further from you than 2 hours, but the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire is always worth a visit. We had a Z4 meet there in summer 2018 - I'm pretty sure firebobby organised it.

Thanks! These are all great suggestions. I'll do some editing on the original post tomorrow to incorporate them.

[ref]Mr Tidy[/ref], the National Motor Museum was a strong contender apart from the distance and I figured I had to put some sort of boundary on it to keep things manageable. I'd put that in the category of "highly likely if I can justify a couple of days away in the New Forest" :)

It was Steve (srhutch) who organised that one

I was thinking if you fancied a trip South it might be worth combining that with the Haynes Museum at Sparkford, then I remembered the Brooklands Museum in Weybridge, Surrey so you could include that too!

Some parts of the existing banking are still there and it's a challenge just to walk up it! To go flat out around it in 20s and 30s cars with no guard rail at the top you would have to have been a full-on adrenalie junkie.

Yes there were a few bikers there when I was there but it was all very friendly :)

Ohhhh, that's not what I thought was meant...

The Ponderosa Cafe on the horseshoe pass above Llangollen is worth a visit. Some great driving roads all around and always plenty of bikes and cars of all description whatever the day of the week

[ref]jamesditchy[/ref], thanks! Looks like 90 minutes-ish from me.

This is great - I've updated the original post and discovered a few places that I didn't know existed :)
