CSL REPS ....who’s the best looking / most authentic looking

Post by CEEGEE » Sat Apr 17, 2021 5:15 pm

Been looking at CSL reps til they come out of my ears ..
I’m USUALLY a rep snob esp when it comes to BBS reps etc..
But looking at how many genuine BMW wheels are crack, repaired , needs welding ..bent
I rather trust a set of Rivas, STROM ...etc
Who’s got what on theirs and specs please ..
18s or 19s ...
I pick my Z up in the next couple of weeks and with most my cars I like a couple of sets so I can swap about ..it’s currently on Elipsoids in black ...or a silver car...with coilovers

I use Fox 18” on my Volvo on Zito 935s 18” on my E89.

The Zitos are not the lightest but are very very strong...

Happy with both sets, quality seems very good for the prices..

Had 326m, got rid them of very quickly..

Had some BMW 103 Daisies..not well rated by Zed people but quality / strength were great ..

Not really sure where you're going with this since BMW don't manufacture their own wheels, they are farmed out to a number of different companies. BBS for instance manufacture the CSL wheel...
Most people who want CSL reps go with these

If these were in a Mercedes PCD figment I might have been tempted, Pressure cast so have a good grain structure, therefore reasonably light and strong, the only downside is the size of centre cap that requires modification of the cap to fit.

I know “genuine “ are made by Ronal, BBS and listed as Genuine BMW , but as a lot of people don’t like anything other than OEM “quality” I wanted to see the consensus on the rep versions of the OEM supplied wheels
I’ve seen a fair few OEM RS6 wheels, CSL , Spiders etc crack , so I would rather trust a brand new set of reps than used ,unknown hidden stressed wheels ..

I’ve narrowed my search down to Atomic , Riva and a slightly different spoke design of the Veemann Vc359

Just next question is 18 or 19”s

Taken from the BMAutosport Facebook page. I dont suppose this is anyones pride and joy is it?
Looks amazing :) but I'd love to hear what the drive ride is like.

Not sure these are available in the UK under the same brand name and type number, but this is my E85 rocking CSL reps not mentioned thus far: AVUS AC-MB4.

Specs:
Front: 19/8.5J ET 34 with Falken FK510 in 225/35
Rear: 19/9.5J ET 37 with Falken FK510 in 255/30.

Next set of tires will either be 265/30 rear, or be Michelins PS4 front and rear again, as the Michelins are chunkier (and there is still plenty space left).

I've got the 19 Inch Riva DTMs. Never had a problem with them. They don't have the raised writing around the middle like I've seen on some of the other reps, and if you're looking for which are the most genuine looking, they might not be the ones to go with.

Has to be 19s if you're wanting as close to genuine as possible.

I prefer the 1M version of the CSL - at least i think it looks slightly different!? The nicest copy of this i've seen is the Strom M359.

Have wanted a set of CSL reps for a long time. Not too keen on the flat look of the Riva DTM front wheels so thinking it's between Atomics or CM Wheels Own Brand. Like everyone I am wondering about the ride going from MV2s on Pirelli P Zero to 19s on not a lot of rubber...

Without doubt the transition from 18's to 19's results in the loss of ride quality, directly attributable to tyre sizing. It has been well documented over the years.
If it is a worry to you, don't do it. There are good quality 18" CSL style wheels available in offsets to suit our coupes from either CMiller or BM the two wheel specialists in the UK. VMR on the west coast of the US also do a wheel in 18" (VMR 703) and their pricing is similar to your UK specialists.

https://www.vmrwheels.com/product-page/v703

These wheels also fit the standard BMW wheel centre

Only slightly. It is on KW coilovers for improved comfort and handling, but the ride height is roughly the same as OEM M suspension. Also: some of the coupes in your post seem to be lower (such as the Dutch blue coupe in the first picture, and the rear one in the pic showing two grey coupes).

A decent (thus not only lowering springs, but decent quality coilovers) and modest lowering will add significantly to the ride quality and handling of the car. Especially for any 10+ years car still running on the same suspension set-up as when it left the factory.
