Insurers Windscreen Cover

Post by Magicarcher » Fri Mar 26, 2021 9:32 am

In the past whenever I have asked insurers if my Windscreen needed replacing will the cover allow me to have a BMW one fitted, it is met with a NO I have to use autoglass. I managed to find NFU Mutual who for an additional excess will allow me to have a BMW screen fitted. But I pay a premium NFU are around 50% higher than most quotes on comparison sites.

Does anyone know of any insurers that will allow windscreesn to the fitted by BMW, I don't mind paying an additional premium if necessary.

Not sure how it is over there, but here in Belgium glass damage is included in the car insurance policy, by default the window repair company places glass from the same company that produces the bmw windshields (but without the bmw logo), but if you ask before replacing you can get an OEM window installed for no additional cost. Also the bmw dealerships (or at least mine) here are registered as 'official window repair company' and if you go to your dealership the insurance company still pays for the window.

If your not plann8ng on getting anew screen  then I wouldn’t worry too much until you do. An excess in premium each year for a few years could far out way any additional cost of replacing the screen with a bmw one. I’m sure the insurance company would let you pay the difference for a bmw screen.

I had my screen changed last year and didn’t want to go with any of the usual national windscreen companies based on some of the issues encountered by other members on this forum.

At the time the car was insured through Chris Knott brokers who had placed the cover with Equity Red Star. I called Chris Knott who emailed ERS and got authorisation to have the job done at my local BMW dealer for a slightly higher excess of £125.

Total cost was an eye watering £946.42 and you can see the list of parts used. I’m not sure if these are all strictly necessary but I was very satisfied with the job and the insurance company settled the bill quickly with no quibbles.

I had cheap Chinese Autoglass screen fitted, it cracked the next day. Replaced, the next screen wiper blades could never clean the screen. Tried everything to clean. 2 sets of new blades. I ended paying 300 for a BMW screen and Autoglass fitted for free.
Don't go cheap if necessary bite the bullet and pay for BMW screen.

Of course i already paid 100 for the first screen.
