How to add aux to stock radio

Post by ejs4 » Mon Jan 25, 2021 10:45 am

Hello,

I would be interested to know the best method of installing a input aux into the cars built in radio system. From looking online, it looking like the following should just connect into the back of it.

Are there any alternative methods?

Yes that or similar but existing radio has to be of certain age( think was late 2002)so that cycle thro radio/Cd/cdchanger would then go to Aux. Lots of threads o net about it particularly for E46 bmw's. When did my E46 also added a parrot kit for bluetooth phone (which worked with steering wheel controls). think there is a parrot kit that will do both telephone and bluetooth streaming.
Did a write up on BMWland re parrot kit. If thinking doing can look for link( Telephone parts cost less than £100 inc 2nd hand parrot kit)

Yep, it is literally a plug into the back of the OEM radio unit (it may be dependent on model, I am not sure). There is a BMW version, but its more expensive. Here is a link to the realOEM page for it:

No need for bluetooth phone connectivity. Just want to be able to play music through either aux or usb cable.

Any way of telling is the adapter I am looking at works with my radio? (It has a CD changer in the rear storage compartment.)

You need this:

https://fruitycarcables.co.uk/fruity%20 ... 85-e86-aux

Then research how to take the vents out, two screws gets the radio out and its simple to fir the cable.

Have you checked the back of the stereo already? When i removed my stereo it already had one connected & coiled up at the back.
I just had to drill a hole and fit it.
Cheers Gary

Do you know if this cable will work with this radio?

If you have already got a cable you will have the option for aux in the radio/cd/cd changer cycle.

I purchased the cable from Fruity-cables. Works perfectly fine on my radio (11-04 ZD Radio model).

Just purchased an aux cable from Fruity Cables, who was a very active member here years ago. Friendly fast service and taylors cable taking into account if you have Nav/bluetooth. He no longer has a website, but you will find him on ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301066788151 ... 7:g:PxwAAO

I have an aux already built into the Z4 in the panel above the ashtray near the drivers side. I thought these were in all models? I've fitted a Echo auto here also, so can play anything from Amazon music or Spotify. Just ask Alexa lol. She also can make calls too.

I installed aux using a cheap eBay cable and socket (which visually looks identical to the Fruity setup, including the red cable). It works, but there is noticeable white noise through the speakers on aux mode, which increases with revs. Can anyone with the Fruity setup confirm no such issue?
