When I changed my battery the mechanic didn't use any back up supply. Just switched everything off and disconnected the old and reconnected the new. He did say sometimes when you do it this way something weird happens like the windows don't work for a couple of days but no issues with mine.

Before you spend all that cash on a new ECU I would want to know why the old one went Kaput or the same may happen again. If the dealers find it was the fault of the AA then they should pay.

The reason i called the AA man out for the battery was that the EML light was on and the throttle responce issue was already there.
He used a save pack that was plugged into computer terminal in the foot well.

Hopfully will get good news tomorrow. I am resigned to receiving a fat bill, Anything less will be a bonus.

What happened to the ecu they diagnosed as fried? Sounds odd that the oil has deteriorated so badly in 4months :?

How often were you doing these short run outs?, How far were you going and how long were you out for, 3 months for the oil to deteriorate like that is astounding πŸ™. Hope they get it sorted for you.

While the engine is stripped down like this I would take the opportunity to have the timing chain guides upgradedπŸ‘

So the valvetronic motor was gubbed and holding the valve lift incorrectly ?

My Toyota IQ is prone to the same problem, open the oil cap and its covered in mayonnaise. Only happens if used for short runs in cold weather.

...bet there is nothing wrong with those injectors. The oil gunking would be sorted with a spirited drive (if only that was possible ). Valvetronic motor is probably the real culprit.
