E86 Monaco Coupe Progress Thread

Hi all. Back on the forum with my newly acquired Z4 coupe si, bought today.

After many years of Zed’s, ///M’s a Breadvan and most recently, an E30 325i vert, I’m back in straight six naturally aspirated territory with a coupe. I love the coupe. The shape, rear end, interior space - it just works. So after a short look around I found this 2006 Monaco Blue, beige interior, manual car on 102k miles and a decent history.

Car has done only 400 odd miles the last few years so thanks for all previous advice on checks and changes. Some I’ll be doing myself and some I’ll be getting my go to Beemer specialists ETA Motorsport to sort out. She’s heading over there next week for a full health check, but I have to say I’m already smitten. All the old memories of my previous Z4MC came flooding back when I climbed into the car for the first time today. It’s such a great place to be and compared to the ‘temporary’ VW Scirocco I ran the last month, night and day in terms of build quality.

Going to try and keep this as a bit of a build thread. Few things to sort (such as the broken centre console door (see below)) and a few things in mind for the future (exhaust, suspension, bush refresh etc etc etc). Also want to get Bluetooth streaming via that Amazon dongle thing that plugs into the CD prep, plus I’ve just been reading a thread on subtle twin USB power cabling.

To those I already know, hello. To those I don’t, nice to meet you

That's a great colour combination, and probably quite a rare one too - looks great!

Good luck getting your planned mods done.

Welcome back. Lovely coupe.

Am I right in remembering that there was a "mini inkey" who is probably a somewhat bigger inkey now? The image of him in your Z4MR sticks in the memory!

Mini inkey has grown somewhat David.

Great to see you back in a Z4. Your third if memory serves me well.

Hopefully see it in the flesh sometime soon if we can get rid of this covid.

Breadvan wasn’t being used that much and was getting more valuable by the week. Needed to be driven to keep things going so decided to sell in 2018. Still miss that car but it enabled me to try a few other things for a while, so forever grateful. Such a great experience though...

I’ve already welcomed you back, so... :)

Are you talking about this for the Bluetooth streaming ?

Given my intravee no longer allows me to control my phone through the stereo or steering wheel controls, I am ver tempted by this idea. I will watch with interest how many knuckles you skin getting the stereo out

Exactly. Plug in, play music, control via wheel. No AUX in my coupe. Want less wires. Figured it was a win.
Plugged into rear firewall area, so no knuckle damage required by the looks of things.

No, not that. The Amazon thing. Plug in, play music, control via wheel. No AUX in my coupe. Want less wires. Figured it was a win.
