DSC failure on delivery

Post by Bikermole » Tue Nov 10, 2020 4:10 am

Can anyone help or offer any similar experience. Oct 27 2020 after waiting an extra month for our g29 Z4 20MSport to arrive, we drive for about 8 miles before a parking brake failure light came on and the brake + hold would not engage. Managed to complete journey and when turning engine off and on, managed to enable brake. Rang dealership who advised getting it back to them but had to call BMW assist to help disengage brake. Warnings all the way to dealership. That’s the last time we’ve seen it. Apparently BMW have ZERO REPLACEMENT PARTS for what they suspect is a faulty DSC. My wife is without her 60th present and we are told a further 8 weeks is needed to get the part replaced, even though clearly faulty at manufacture. Dealership not allowed to swap with existing, reprogram or properly test that the DSC is the failed part.

BMW customer support not helping or really understanding, lots of “hope you like your new car please fill this survey in” arriving in my emails.

Can this be right? If anyone in a Z4 has this part fail then the car is out of action for at least 8 weeks.

I only have 30 days where I can reject the car.

Is this a reliable model I can trust? Because so far the experience is diabolical from all aspects.

I’ve not read of this or heard of this on any other new Z4’s. I fear you’re just very unlucky and I know these things are always a pain to get sorted.

I assume BMW will provide you with a loan car whilst the Z4 is away.
Apart from the initial software bugs, people seem to be very happy with the G29, in whatever guise.

That's bad news and shocking service Bikermole.
I've had my G29 since mid September and it's been 100% reliable, no squeaks, no rattles, no warning lights or anything....as it should be.

As for is it a reliable car you can trust, let's face it it's made in the majority from a bin of parts that are used in countless models, parts that are continually being developed to give years of fault free service.

It's the parts that arnt used on many models, the folding food mechanism for instance that I have more worries about based on the experience of running verts for many years, I'm pleased to say that the G29's from my limited knowledge contains no hydraulics so that's one less thing to go wrong!

I hope you get the issue sorted swiftly and satisfactorily.

Contrary to others saying they have not heard of this before I can recall several threads over the past few months of others experiencing this exact problem.

If the g29 hasn’t got an electro/hydraulic motor how is the roof operation powered? :?

There is an electric motor on each pillar, no hydraulics at all. The motors are also "high" in the car so hopefully will not get saturated.

I’m not aware of this being a problem previously. No major issues to report with mine and very happy all round TBH.

If this is a brand new car BMW should give you a decent loaner under the circumstances. If not speak to customer service directly. I’ve had some very positive support from them over the years re new car issues.
