Critical safety recall
Just a heads up guys, I dropped my Z4 M40i off at the dealers this morning to get my software updated. Got a phone call an hour later from them to say that there is a critical recall outstanding on the car and that they are now unable to release the zed back to me until it is fixed, something that I wasn't expecting. I believe the recall was only issued today, so as you might expect the parts required are not currently available in the UK . BMW Germany have indicated an expected due date of 17 July! I believe the recall has something to do with the replacement of both track rods, so it might be worth checking to see if your zed is effected https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/footer/quick-l ... calls.html
I'm now currently waiting for a BMW to arrange for a hire car to be delivered, not good at all!

That's a bit of a bummer Swiftly. Always better safe than sorry I guess.
(Or did they just need a demonstrator for the next few weeks. )

A real bummer for sure, it looks like all Z4 G29 models might be effected by this recall.
Luckily, I have a tracker fitted to mine, so am still able to see where its parked and what journeys it has done

Sorry to hear that Swiftly, but then if it's safety critical maybe it's just as well it is being sorted.
Let's hope they don't supply a G29 as the courtesy car though!

Ha ha, unfortunately due to Covid there is currently a lack of available cars, so even after having a long chat with BMW directly and the dealer, the best they can currently offer me is a 5 series 2ltr diesel . One things for sure is that it will make me appreciate my zed once I get her back

Seems a little radical if not unfair they cannot release the car until the refit is completed. I mean .... what are they going to do repossess every car they sold today and tomorrow ? Thousands of tow trucks out there right now looking to repossess new Zeds for safety impound. No, so why should you be forced to be without yours. Doesn't make sense. Seems some sort of waver should be possible. Never heard of this

I totally agree, especially as they do not have the parts in the UK to actually fix the issue.scootr wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 11:43 pm Seems a little radical if not unfair they cannot release the car until the refit is completed. I don't know if it relates to all G29's or just the M40i

I looked this up, in the US they cannot hold your vehicle if they do not have the parts to fix it. period. End of story

Mine shows as an ‘open recall’.
Guess we will have a letter coming out soon then to advise us. I won’t say anything to BMW yet as I don’t want them holding onto my car if parts aren’t available.
Thanks for passing this on Swiftly.
Did they get anywhere with the software update?

Maybe the car could be unsafe if it’s a critical recall, it may not be wise to carry on driving them?Wyldie85 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:53 am Mine shows as an ‘open recall’.

If I hadn’t seen this today then I’d be none the wiser and would have to wait for BMW to write to me in any case. I haven’t used the car in over a week and won’t do so this weekend either. It can stay in the garage until I know more. If I haven’t heard anything by this time next week, I’ll give them a call.Smartbear wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:57 amMaybe the car could be unsafe if it’s a critical recall, it may not be wise to carry on driving them?Wyldie85 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:53 am Mine shows as an ‘open recall’.
