35i Mystery noise

Post by mcbutler » Sat Jun 13, 2020 12:46 pm

Watch the video below and comment please. The car had done around 80 miles that day, easy driving, not particularly warm. I think its the fan belt as it appears to 'catch up' just before the noise stops. Definetely not the DCT clutches or I would have smelt them. Maybe a stone stuck behind a disc??

Any ideas fellas??

Sounds very much like the alternator belt to me mcbutler, might need the tensioner wheel adjusting a little or a new belt. Doesn’t sound like anything major though.

Sounds like a belt to me too. Check there's nothing leaking onto the belt, the oil filter housing in particular can leak oil onto it.

100% drive belt.
New belt and tensioner I’d suggest to fix that.

Agree with the belt diagnosis, if it’s driving you nuts they can be quietened by smearing some tree sap on the inside face of the belt (not with the engine running!) until it’s replaced

I'd say auxiliary belt when alternator loads up to charge. Could be tensioner fault or just the belt.

Easy. It's the 'Take the car to the garage' noise.
