Long time lurker, new M Coupe owner

Hi everyone. New member and owner here. I thought it was time I introduce myself after having lurked here while researching my purchase.

After having driven a Clownshoe many years ago I've been wanting one of my own. Unfortunately with prices having escalated to what they are now, they're a bit out of (my) reach. Recently I had come across a few Z4 Coupes on the forums and feeds I follow, but hadn't given them too much thought. One weekend while out for a ride on my bike I came across Munich Legends who at the time had a gorgeous Clownshoe in their show room. I hopped on their website to confirm how much the prices had risen to. While the price of the Z3 M Coupe wasn't a surprise, I also saw a E86 M with 53,000 miles on the clock, and in what looked like good cosmetic condition. That's when the research started and I came across this site.

After much reading and man maths, it was time to buy. Here's my car.

Before I took delivery of the car it had an inspection 2 done, M logos replaced and a fresh set of Conti Sport Contacts. Since then I've done a few cosmetic tweaks in the form of a paint restoration detail with 2 stage ceramic coating (fancy!) and had the steering wheel refurbished.

Before lockdown I managed to get in a quick few laps of Anglesey on a freezing cold February Saturday, which was epic fun. It was great to really open the taps and explore the handling characteristics outside of normal road driving.

Thanks to this forum for the wealth of info you've all shared. It's been a massive help. Here's hoping I can pay it forward somewhow.

Matt

Welcome along! Car looks lovely, very purposeful on that last photo too!

It sounds like it’s had most of the hard work done to it for now with insp 2 and tyres, ready for a lot of happy driving!

:driving:

Hi Matt and welcome to the forum, and M Coupe ownership.

Your last photo certainly does look great!

I'm on the Berkshire/Surrey/Hampshire borders so you never know, I may see you about.

Hi Matt.
Welcome to the forum and what a good choice you’ve made there.
Sounds like your all clued up and have made a nice M coupe, lovely with the detailing and fettling.

Here’s to many miles of happy motoring in your lovely ///M.

Welcome to the forum/world of Z4MC ownership

I don't know if it's just me, but that rear camber looks huge? Probably helps with cornering, but will kill the inside of the tyres quite quickly. BTW, did you fit period Continental M3 tyres or something recent/decent :P

Thanks for the welcome everyone. ...and yes @Angelus666 I know the badge is on the wrong side  . I had Munich Legends refresh all the ///M badges before I bought it and, unbelievably, they stuck it on the wrong side! I've got one on order and will be correcting that soon.

There's a bit of photo editing done there to accentuate its stance. I assure you it's all standard :) The tyres were not my choice (fitted on sale by Munich Legends). I'll be swopping them for Michelin Pilot Sport 4's as soon as these are ready to replace.

What's the plans on mods over the coming year? You've had a while now so you should really have done the Gruppe M, Exhaust, Aeros, Stubby, ZHP, Suspension, Eibach, Strut Bar, Royals Steering Wheel, CSL's.....

That explains it - thought it was set up for oval racing :P

Haha, in that case I'm going to disappoint you!

The only thing I'm considering is a de-baffle of the backbox. I may have a look at the brakes somewhere along the line because one of the previous owners decided it was a good idea to paint the stock calipers red :( They're now black again but still look s**t.

If you do one thing, then get a ZHP gearknob, for £50 it makes the world of difference to the gear change.

Would love to see some more pics of a fully paint corrected and coated MC...get them added

Look ace!! I too am a lurker, looking to purchase a Z4Mc in June. Just waiting to find the right one at the right price, with the correct maintenance done as per your car!

Enjoy.
