I have been in touch with a company who can supply just the decal inlays but have minimum orders.
Therefore I intend to order 4 complete sets (awaiting confirmation on price)
Once received I will post photos and let you decide whether full badges or decals are the way to go.

Of course I will then let those of you who wish to have the spare sets at cost plus postage (if they’re any good) 🙏🏻
No problems at all, that's great news in fact! :)
The original thread had been started with the idea of getting inlays and I believe Tom created the media (with BMW approved colours) that could be used by. The printing shop (saving them time and ensuring colour match).

I look forward to hearing from you about cost etc.

Thank you
A
This is the main problem the Pantones need converting to process colours depending on the media the colours may look right or wrong as it needs to be a UV resistant material.

Needs a keen eye but haven't found anywhere that will do it in small quantities to check and the majority of places are closed.

Re: Decals

The company is based in USA
ETA for delivery is end of April and so as soon as the decals arrive I will provide pictures and an update on quality.
Cost per set works out around £3

TBH id rather deal with a local supplier as any wrap company with a vinyl printer and die cutter could make them. You can see and make adjustments rather than having to wait and try to sort issues.

Did they give you any idea on the vinyl they will use, UV properties etc? Half the problem with the OEM badges is the stickers are laminated paper with no UV protection which is why they fade and look

Once you've got one batch that is right, on a large format vinyl printer you could get 100's batched on one run have them die cut on 3 per sheet and reduce the cost.

There are so many variations of the M colours that places use and from experience they just google the colour reference and convert it to process and print without too much care. Ive been designing car and van wraps for years and have had a lot of these issues over the years and as its my P&J I want to get it right. Ive already been in touch with BMW UK who have sent me the brand guidelines and made the logos. The problem is all of my contacts shops are shut as they aren't essential businesses.

TBH will probably sort my own as I would rather get it right. Il get a few batched and if anyone wants some il offer them.

Sounds like you know your stuff

I just didn’t particularly want to be in a position of removing the original badges for replacements.
It’s only the red on the decal that has faded.
As I say I will see what arrives and post with further info.
I have some clear lacquer that I can coat these with if any good that would hopefully help with the longevity.

As we know, nothing lasts forever........ :headbang:

Ye definitely, for 99% of people replacing the sticker is far easier. The stickers peel off really easy and you just replace with new ones.

Replacing the badges isn't as easy as it looks.

To get them in the right place BMW has templates and tbf you can find them online print them yourself and help guide its position. Seen a lot of cars on meets where they have been replaced and aren't in the correct position.

The tape is double sided foam, if you pull it off to reposition you will ruin the tape that is die cut specifically to fit the badge. For example you couldn't just cut a larger piece of tape to fit in the rear of the badge, because of the way the badge has been moulded it has ridges and the badge as it wouldn't sit on the paintwork flush. It has to be done in strips cut strips. Absolute pain and its difficult to get it to sit correctly.

The reason I asked earlier in the thread if the repo badges will come with the tape ready installed.

hello everyone,

a quick update on the badges (full set 1 x boot lid plus 2 x wing): there is a bit of a delay in the delivery of the sample... something to be expected these days, I guess.

I was also informed that there will be a minor change in the final price due to custom charges... let's see when we get the sample and the final price... Will keep you posted about any further developments

I received the decals yesterday.
I hoped for the best but unfortunately they’re only good to go on the :fuelfire:

Thought it was worth ago but back to the drawing board. Hopefully Attilio will have better news with the badges.

Any thoughts on having these painted on by a professional sign writer ??

Someone just posted a pic of an eBay M badge up in the Z4 Facebook group. I checked out the item (a boot lid badge), found wing badges as well and have ordered them all for £12.97 posted. As it's been 5 weeks since showing interest (which is nobody's fault) I decided I'd just see what the eBay items are like.

Hi James,

I missed that (I am on the Z4 Facebook group too - at least I think it could be the same group...).

I would have done the same thing: for that money, it's worthwhile taking a chance!

Keep us posted: you may have found the solution!

My wing badges arrived today from eBay seller pandorascollections at a price of £3.99 each including P&P. Dimensions are 73 mm x 27 mm: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223993424563

My opinion is that the quality is more than satisfactory for the price. Both have minor imperfections and so would not warrant a price above £10 each, but I will be perfectly happy to stick these onto my car, using the self-adhesive backing already fitted to the badges by the seller.

The worst blemish is a small bubble in the paint applied to the red stripe on one badge. The other badge also has a very small air bubble in the red paint. My guess is that if you bought four or five of these badges, you'd end up with at least two very good ones. I'd say that I have one very good and one good, and will be fitting both to my car.

Hello all,

finally an update!

Seemingly a set of new badges has been made and is on its way to my address. Can't wait to receive and examine it to assess the quality, colour match etc.

I will post pictures as soon as possible.

We may finally have the chance to transform this wish list/waiting list into something more concrete.

Will be in touch soon. Thanks for your patience!

Hello Wonkydonkey,

I somehow missed your post...

Thanks for sharing those pictures: decent quality alright. Now more than before I am curious to see what I will receive.

As mentioned in my previous post, I will share pics, opinion and prices as soon as possible.
