I use a 1.5m length of steel box square 30mm x 30mm x 3mm. I think it cost around £10 from a steel merchants. This fits between the 2 jacking side points and I simply jack the car up from the middle. I then lower the car onto jack stands. Takes 2 minutes and you can go as high as you like.

If you’re lifting the car using the jacking points where are you putting the axle stands?

Your lifting the car in the middle of the bar. You simply put the jack stands under the jacking points. I also do it when washing the car as the wheels obviously hang low so you can also clean the arches.

So the bar doesn't reach all the way to the jacking points then?

I understand your lifting in the middle of the bar, what I can’t visualise is what lifting points your using to distribute the load of the car to the bar.

I think I've got it:

1. Steel bar goes along the sill, sitting beneath each jacking point
2. Jack one side of the car up by picking up the middle of the bar
3. Axle stands beneath the bar, where the jacking points are
4. Repeat on the other side of the car to get all four wheels up (but you'll need 2 bars for this!)

Before this method I used a piece of wood along the underneath of the sill. The plastic is bolted to the subframe. However I had to Jack the car up 4 times at each corner. The above method is much quicker. The price was for a 3m length that I had cut in half. It’s also a perfect size. I’ll post some photos the next time I have m6 Z up.

Nobody else hangs a front wheel out over a ditch and jumps up and down on the bonnet?

Excuse my ignorance, I assume when you said lift from the middle you was lifting either the 2 front or the 2 back wheels, I’m totally onboard now.

Would it be worth a mod (add a lump at the ends) so it locates firmly in the jacking points?
And taking that a step further, maybe a way to locate the axle stands more securely underneath the bar?

Ah, ok, can't watch the video at work.
I misread and thought it fitted at both jacking pads and put the load through them, hence me wondering if it could be more firmly located in them.

I'm not liking the idea of lifting on the sill even with a spreader on a seam per the video, you can clearly see the spreader bow leaving the weight on a relatively small spot, not worth the risk IMHO.

Which is why I was thinking you locate the bar in the jack points to take the weight.
Then make sure the axle stands locate securely under the bar.
