Ok the car is on the drive and whilst its not bothering me to much its fairly basic compared to the X3 but that aside I want to run my own music through the business stereo but the only connection appears to be the aux jack plug inlet which is in the centre arm rest.

I am sure that his has been covered but I understand that an aux to USB female cable is of no use because the music from a memory stick will not play via this connection so what do the rest of you use to play your own stuff via the aux outlet

Hi Kev
So that plugs into the aux hole and then do you blue tooth connect it to your phone?

Yes John, exactly that and you can make and receive phone calls but that part is not brilliant.

I would suggest this one - amazing audio quality and calls good too.

You can skip tracks back and forward very simply without having to take your eyes off the road. Have been running one of these for a couple of years although I have powered it direct from fusebox with an inline power supply rather than plugging in the fag lighter. See my build here...

I use my iphone for Sat Nav and calls only.
Took a while to sort out the hands free voice dialing but it works great now via bluetooth - no cable.

Re music.
I bought a 20Gb memory stick the physically smallest I could find.
I load it with high qual MP3s, hundreds, thousands of tracks, CDs from itunes on my Mac and plug it into the USB in the centre armrest storage.
It is so small, it's not going to get snapped off, I just leave it there until I want to change the contents.

To organise the tracks, I create folders. Each could be for a whole CD, a playlist or a genre and give them a title.
On the radio screen using the button corresponding with 'Dir" (Directory), I select the folder title, scroll throug the CD/folder titles and hit the knob to select that playlist. Then scroll down to the first track in that list and hit the knob to start play.
From then on track changes, fast forward, volume is all controlled from the steering wheel.

Once you create the filing system this is so convenient. No need for large wav. aiff. files, high rate mp3s sound great.

Incoming and out going phone calls still auto mute the music and the parking sensors reduce the volume.

Regards

G

That's excellent. I unfortunately am missing the USB port. I have one on my X3 but this new car is a bit more basic. I have ordered one of the things above so let's see how it goes. Took me ages to get stuff onto my phone so it could be s long process :headbang:
