Hi All,
Happy hump day. Last week I bought my second silver Z4, the last one reluctantly sold 3 years ago (pictured below). This time it's the 2.2 manual.
I was looking for a 3 litre but got a bit impatient plus you're looking at a grand more and I like to put my own wheels on. Might even wrap it too.
First of all, what grinds my gears? These people who buy a nice car (Z4 in this case) but don't know how to look after it. The bloke I bought this off couldn't even be arsed to hoover all the grass left in the boot!!! Ok so there's a few jobs need doing which is to be expected but the hood is just pure neglect ravaged with white algae, the wheels are shocking but they're going soon anyway. You don't see rusty Harleys or sheds of Lamborghini's so why is a Z4 different? By driving a Z4, you're going to attraction some attention, you don't want people looking at a s**t heap surely? Anyway, rant over. Now for the differences.
A straight six makes all the difference compared to a 4 cyl lump in terms of smooth running after starting up. It's in the garage at the moment having a BG oil flush and fuel treatment for peace of mind, so should make a difference in performance too. There's no cup holders or CD changer, I thought these were standard in Z4s.
Pictures to follow but these are the wheels I've ordered from fleabay. .

I eventually will get a 3 litre but in the meantime I'm going to reap lots of enjoyment from the straight-six.

Certainly good to hear there's yet another former owner returning.

Yes it's quite sad when you see a neglected Z4 for sale or on the road.

I see a black 2.5se regularly. It gets washed about once per year, paintwork is shocking, alloys look like they've never been cleaned and one headlight is going yellow.

On the other hand though.... Cars like these are easily rescued and ideal to look at as they'll be cheaper. Play your cards right and you can spend very little and replace / upgrade the usual bits and pieces and end up with a good car.

Cheers Rob,
Just got to get used to the loading photos process again lol.
I found it a bit of a kerfuffle originally and I'm not getting any younger.

Steve.

There is always a silver lining. Neglected cars appear in all makes of older prestige vehicles. Repair costs can sometime exceed the value of cars and some just prefer a prestige car but dont have a clue or are reluctant to spend money on maintenance. Vehicles then hit the bottom of their value curve and start to slowly appreciate get purchased by enthusiasts and have time and money spent on them. The rest go to the scrapyard in the sky hence the silver lining. Values of remaining cars creep up. Dont think that point has yet been reached with the Zed.

Well your photos loaded OP, but they are rather small!

It would be great to see how your car looks once you get the new wheels fitted.

Well I have to hold my hand up and admit that I bought my Z4 2.2 as a get to work vehicle though I am 68 and only work 1 day a week! Between my wife and I we own a boring Mondeo a pristine MX5 and a special turbo engine Lotus 7 type vehicle that I made myself plus a plastic turbo kit car for trackdays.
It was not long before the Z showed that it was a fine little car worthy of future classic status and reminded me of the Triumph TR5 (BMW own the Triumph name) which I owned 40 years ago, which only managed 25mpg compared with the Z's 35 mpg and oh that lovely 6 pot smooth engine. I love my Z now. I am going to improve the blemishes as and when and I am thinking of shrinking the "fleet" and upgrading to a 3.0 Z.
