rough ride and jerky braking

Been driving my new Z4 for around a month now and have to say its the roughest car I have even driven. The auto gearbox lurches down the gears when slowing down making the ride very jerky. Even worse is the braking system: try as I may i cannot get this car to come to a halt without coming to a stuttering halt that throws my head back into the headrest.
Going back to dealer next week but would be interested to hear if anyone else is experiencing similar glitches???

Sorry to hear you are having issues. I’ve had auto BMWs and to be honest I think they are one the best gearboxes around. Are you running in sport modes or standard .

Picking up my new G29 in a few days, I didn’t notice that sort of behaviour at all on the test drive.

Also had an E89 auto, no probs.

It gets a bit jerky in sport plus mode cos the change pattern is altered. I really like what it does, but in comfort mode it’s incredibly smooth unless you have an issue with the box. As for the brakes, can’t fault them

Sounds like it's worth taking it to the dealer and reporting your findings.

I'd caveat that with asking what you're used to? If you've had some magic-carpet like Bentley beforehand then yes, it'll be a shock to the system.

As above, it possibly depends on what you've come from?
The gearbox in the G29 I drove was perfectly smooth, the brakes are a big step up from the standard E89 brakes so could take a bit of getting used to.

Yep another one I have to say the M40i I tried was spot on with gear changes and brakes, no issues.

Hope you find a solution fella.

I drive an E class Estate (18 plate) as well. Previously drove Mazda MX5 FR (manual). I drive in comfort mode so wouldn't expect jerky ride!!
Both the above cars ran and braked much more smoothly that the Z4. Read a review from Whatcar and it did say braking was not particularly smooth.
Back to dealership today so will update...Cheers for the interest :)

Only had my G29 2 days, love it, but I did notice that braking is a tad sharp. The lightest touch on the pedal and it brakes quite hard.

I put it down to 'newness' with the hope that the brakes will bed in or I will get used to it.

Can't fault the gearbox although so far I haven't used the manual mode.

I have a G29 Z4 for the next 24 hours, courtesy of BMW as I am (was?) seriously considering part exchanging my E89 and purchase the new one.

I too am having similar issues, especially with the braking and rough suspension. It could be the M sport adaptive suspension, which feels way rougher than the non M Sport suspension in the E89.

Back on topic, I've found that the brakes need only a gentle touch, any more and the braking is quite severe.

I did notice some vibration and steering issues yesterday and then discovered that I have Land Departure Warning which occurs when crossing a white line at speed, unless the indicators are used. I didn't know that I had got it! It can only be turned off for the duration of the current journey.
