Most of the BMW OEM stuff is MANN. Bosch or Mahle are equally good quality.

These are the parts for the 3.0Si:

Oil Filter:
OEM: Mann 11427953129
Recommended rep: Bosch 1457429269

Air filter:
OEM: Mann 13717542545
Recommended rep: Mahle LX1250 or Bosch F026400463

Cabin filter:
OEM: CUK 64319195194
Recommended rep: Mahle LAK234 or Bosch 1987432068

MANN can be found at half the dealer price from ECP/CP4Less and are what I exclusively use.

There are many opinions on oil brands. If it meets the spec and you change it more frequently than schedule, then imho, that will make the biggest difference and negate any minor brand advantages.
I aim for a 7500 interval or 1 year, whichever comes first.

Mann filters and whatever correct spec oil I can find on a deal is my choice, providing its meeting the correct standards it will be fine. Some people will always have their loyalties and tell you one is better than the others, perhaps the same who always used Castrol oils because BMW recommended it. Now that Shell supply BMW their oil, BMW recommend Shell. Funny that!

Thanks for the advice. I just got the Mann filters along with some NGK plugs because they are the cheapest at the moment from Andrew page. They are selling the same NGK plugs as ECP for half the price...

I used a 'cheap as chips' Crosland filter once (for a Mini R50) and found it incredibly hard work. Opted for a Mann one second time round and what a difference! Actually installed easily and quickly, when the Zed is due I'll use a Mann for that, for an extra quid or so, its definitely worth it! As for Oil I usually use Castrol as you can pick up 4l for just over £20 (to LL04 spec). But again so long as it's within spec no issues using any other brand if its got a better offer.

Dito bought a Crossland cabin filter for Zed and regretted it. The OEM part (marked Mann) has sides which were like felt and flexible, the crossland used cardboard. It was a pig to get it and the cardboard sides distorted.

Thanks, I've gone with Mann filters. Always used Motorcraft for Ford but wasn't sure what the equivalent is for BMW. A note of warning, I just went to fit the spark plugs I bought only to find that they were dirty like they had been fitted before, oil on the threads and the noses were not perfectly clean. They looked like someone had fitted them fired the car up and decided that it didn't fix their problem and returned them to the motor factors. So now I've got to see if I can get them replaced :headbang:

That's poor of the supplier to have not checked them upon return!

Sounds pretty expected. Once I had a brake disk that someone had purchased, removed the ABS sensor ring from and returned with it missing. I tend to insist on sealed packaging now when collecting.
