Roof motor- definitive list and prices
This thread is literature porn to a z4 owner out in Australia. Would love it if either of you could offer an online package with instructions and parts. I'm first in line, happy to wait. Don't think I'd be able to do the job you guys do but if I took it down to a local shop they may be able to follow your instructions.
It's costing about 2k to get it done here via BMW roughly 1100 pounds.
Can't afford anything close to that.

There are plenty of Vidtorials on YT out there for it. Have a watch and source the parts and tools you need, set a clear day aside and give it a go.Rafaaq8 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2017 7:14 am This thread is literature porn to a z4 owner out in Australia. worse comes to worst, what will happen? You'll end up taking it to someone anyway. Pretty hard to brake it anyway. it'll either be grief and not go right or it'll work.

It's actually VERY easy to break it - The hydraulic lines wrap around the the housing, and they are easily damaged by prying or levering in the wrong area. They are approx £143 each+vat from BMW to replace. So care needs to be taken. It' also possible to snap one of the hall sensors froms its mounting , again whilst levering on the casing.Monkeydonkeyratmagic wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2017 10:38 amThere are plenty of Vidtorials on YT out there for it. This is why some of us who do them on here actually lift out part of the roof for fear of damaging them. I personally don't, but then again I carry replacement hoses, so if I was to damage one, I could sort it. Fingers crossed this hasn't happened yet...

I disagree. It’s the op that is overreacting. I don’t know Bowser but what he does is his business and If people don’t like, don’t use him, simple.jamie_z4 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2017 3:46 pmover reaction muchwegras wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2017 4:57 pmWe are not talking about a business here Bowser does it in his spare time from a demanding but very relevant day job and in my experience his prices seem to drop and of course depends on the issues and setting price lists is ridiculousOldGreyZed wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2017 4:34 pm Thankd for the helpful replies gents.
Thanks number 5 that's good to know I'll certainly have a think about it
Wegras that was my point entirely, I can't understand why I have to Pm someone for a quote when it's in black and white by Mike and Number 5 above? Is it a secret? Should it not be available for people to see as he or she is nearest to me
However thats your problem .
If it is a problem I suggest you do go somewhere else
I don’t understand the OPs fascination with him hmm

Thing is Paul, we have a for sale section - if your offering a service , or a physical item for sale - it should be clearly priced as per forum rules - I see Mike & Alan have followed this procedure where others have not - people have their items pulled from sale or get ousted if they don't post a price... just my take on it

Do you still do these Mike?
Faulty boot seal means my motor is sat in a inch of water.
It's booked in tomorrow but if exorbitant then I can come to you from Yorkshire at weekend.

Just got my self a little 2003 z4, been having issues with my roof also.
Originally when the button was pressed the light was solid orange and did nothing. Took it to a garage who charged me for diagnostics and said there could be faulty wiring somewhere and wanted me to book back in to rip the dash out and look for broken wires (4 hours labour) then said If they don’t find anything it would be roof off and to change the motor. He quoted me £1200, no way I’m paying anywhere close to that.
Been reading though this forum and decided to check the micro switch in the boot, bridged the connection and now the roof unlatches but the light flashes red so I’m assuming this is the Motor after all the reading I have been doing.
Is there anyone around the north west that can replace the motor? For a lot less than £1200 lol

Roof motor- definitive list and prices
Hi all,
I'm new to the Forum, and have found this thread very useful, as my roof motor has just died, despite being garage kept in my 5 years ownership, and only dry summer use.
It did sit outside for a couple of weeks back in May, so guess that's done for it... windows go down, roof un-clips, dead motor.
I therefore need to get the refurb and relocation sorted, as I'm not confident enough to have a try myself, and it looks like Number5 is the nearest person with the skills. I'm in Devon, so 1.5hrs from Bristol.
As I newbie I can't yet PM anyone, so if you're reading this, do get in touch so we can hopefully arrange something suitable.
Love my Z4... get a buzz every time I drive it, more so with the top down!!
Rich

Hi and welcome. I believe you need 3 posts to send a Pm so two more and you’re good. Post up a pic of your car and tell us a bit more about it, in two separate posts of course.
