I checked mind and found previous owner had cut half of the big piece off but left the rest in. I tried removing one and then both bits but was driving with roof down. Havent tried it with no foam and roof up. Cant wait to test on the weekend

I had a question about the curved rubber piece that is at the end of the tube nearest the cabin. Is that piece needed? And if so does it matter how its inserted? Thanks

Ok just did this. I debt have anyone listening outside but it sure as hell sounds good inside! Does it sound any different outside?? Brill write up by the way. But I only needed to pull the pipe out, no plaster needed.

same here, pipe containing the foam just pulls straight out without the need to undo the clips and remaining pipes. i took out the one closest to the engine :)
it sounds much beefier under acceleration, and i'm sure people could here it outside when your top is down...

If the roof's down, you can hear it outside.

I know it's possible to just pull out the pipe, but it seemed that for the purpose of the write up, I'd best tell you the "correct" way of getting at it ;)

Hi Pk2371,

Sorry for the late answer - but which bit of rubber are you referring to?
Is it the grommet in the bulkhead?

Its the gray curved piece with a flap on it. It was in the rubber grommet on the firewall.

Thank you OP. I've just done the sound generator mod, I took the larger piece of foam from the bulkhead end of the pipe out. So far I've just taken it for a quick run down the road, I can't believe the difference it makes, it sounds awesome! Can't wait to give it a full testing on the national meet run tomorrow! :D

Hi,

I too have gone for this mod, however i am struggling to get the pipe seated correctly at the cabin side. The collar seems to be located correctly but i cant get the tube/pipe to slide up into the hole. Just wandered if anyone else had this issue / best way to get around it?

Cheers

Mike

PS. I have the N52 engine, same as PCBung, so the pipework has a few turns.

Try taking both ends out so the pipe is totally free and start again from the end you're struggling with. If it still wont go in, try a little fairy liquid around the collar to help it slide in.

Well, i have felt around and I cant see / feel how it could go in any further, its just the connection has some play and dosent seem right. I will try taking the whole thing out shortly if no luck. I am right in thinking it should be a tight fit without any play / movement once seated correctly?

Theres shouldn't be much play, if any really. To ensure you've got a perfect fit, you can always remove the black plastic panel underneath the glovebox. 3 or so screws, remove the light connector and then you can see the end of the pipe and collar from the other side... May be some help to you?
