Fab photo - for my budget choice of two both same price , both sapphire black & red leathers , m pack on both - the 194 bhp has all the additional packs - the 254 bhp No heads up or Harmon ?

Really subjective choice on what packs you consider essential. For me it was the comfort and technical packs, and that's all I've ended up with. Specifically the wind deflector, heated steering wheel and HUD were my deal breakers.
I would say the wind deflector is the key thing to have regardless, but can be fitted after purchase. The parts for it used to cost just under £500, not sure of current prices.

Unless it's raining than you'll look a right muppet.
That's what my 3 Series is for!
Anyway OP I wonder if the power difference is just a map? If so I'd chose the better spec with less power, but if not I'd chose power first as options can often be retro-fitted - unless you think either is essential.
Coupes because stunning!

The 30i is a remapped version of the 20i..so out of warranty time then...Mr Tidy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 12:15 amUnless it's raining than you'll look a right muppet.

Great info as ever- I did wonder wether a remap would be the way to go - essentially it’s the same engine and although the two am loooking at the194 bhp has also 10k miles on the clock both are 2020 year . Could you recommend anyone in Lancashire who carries out the remaps ? And any drawbacks

Given the purchase price I’d recommend a trip to some one with a strong track record and someone who can dyno it before and after…BMmad wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 7:38 pm Great info as ever- I did wonder wether a remap would be the way to go - essentially it’s the same engine and although the two am loooking at the194 bhp has also 10k miles on the clock both are 2020 year . I use some guys in Sunderland that I’ve had lots of tuning done with..I’m sure there are folks closer..
The B48 engine is a great design learning from the N54/N55 so is well capable of around 300 BHP ..up from the 180 BHP ish on the 20i and 250 ish on the 30i
The gearbox may need its TCU mappimg to suit..again a tier 1 shop should know what they are doing..

I got my new G29 2 months ago, 20i which has enough grunt for me
I went for Sapphire Black with Ivory interior, sounds a bit bling but looks stunning. I have witnessed several occasions where people have been photographing it on their phones, including today on Sainsbury’s car park!
As far as additional packs, I went just for tech, which gives you HUD, HK sound system, parking assistant (including rear view camera), good value for money compared to other packs IMO but each to their own

The lower powered B48 engines in other installations have different pistons / internals than the higher power variants and some have had piston issues when mapped, so be careful if going that route. No doubt the G29 is the same, but check on realoem to be sure.

Yes you’re correct unlike the N20 fitted to the 18i/20i/28i E89 which did have identical internal components the B48 does have different piston compression ratios …I think for a competent tuner this would not be problematic..hence my focus on one with a dyno to verify / check their tuning..abar121 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 8:59 pm The lower powered B48 engines in other installations have different pistons / internals than the higher power variants and some have had piston issues when mapped, so be careful if going that route. Hmm, I just checked realoem and they seem to have the same short engines, pistons, the lot! Looking at the G20 forums, it seems BMW did switch to using the same motors for the 3 series too.B21 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:46 pmYes you’re correct unlike the N20 fitted to the 18i/20i/28i E89 which did have identical internal components the B48 does have different piston compression ratios …I think for a competent tuner this would not be problematic..hence my focus on one with a dyno to verify / check their tuning..abar121 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 8:59 pm The lower powered B48 engines in other installations have different pistons / internals than the higher power variants and some have had piston issues when mapped, so be careful if going that route. I wish they wouldn’t keep iterating that engine…so yes same piston in 30i and 30i in the G29….well if was in 2019..abar121 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 10:06 pmHmm, I just checked realoem and they seem to have the same short engines, pistons, the lot!
