Z4 G29 Delivery Delays

My first post….
Towards the end of July 2021 I placed an order for a Z4 20i M Sport with a few options added, delivery was quoted as the end of October.
However delivery has now been put back to an estimated Feb/March 2022, so a wait time of 7-8 months, this has been put down to microchip/driver shortages, production issues etc, etc….. the usual feedback I guess.
Is this extended delivery time common for Z4’s already on order and for those which are being ordered now within October/November.
I was hoping to join the forum as a new owner of a Z4 but in the end decided to go ahead and join.
It would be interesting to know if anyone else has experienced delays on the delivery dates of Z4’s.

Hello and welcome.

That’s one of the longer delays we’ve come across, particularly for a 20i. Most of the delays appear to be affecting the M40i’s.

I started this thread about delays and availability. Throughout this thread there’s various people saying they’re hitting delays, mainly Ori and Sars, but it’s weeks rather than months. Both their cars are due very soon and about 4 weeks behind schedule.

Congratulations on your purchase, commiserations oh having to wait so long and and of course hello. I ordered mine on the 14th June and delivery is scheduled for week 44 (it’s now built so fingers crossed) which will be about six weeks late. Unfortunately it’s not just the Z4 or BMW, the chip shortage is causing havoc everywhere.

I would say that the time will pass quickly, but it hasn’t for me :(

Do you know if it is possible to track the progress of the Z4 build in some way, I have read on other sites that this is possible but the owners seemed to be based in the USA.

[ref]Rad[/ref], if you get the order number you can use the BMW live chat and ask them for an update.
 
BMW are now prioritising putting the electronics modules that they do have into the cars with higher selling prices to help their yearend financials - more revenue and better gross margin per product for them this way even though sales are limited.
If you want a M3/M4 you can get them quickly, but base spec cars of any model you are in for a wait.

On the bright side your z4 will arrive just in time for Spring and you can enjoy it with the roof down!

I think the length of delay you are seeing is not unusual for new Z4 orders placed in the last few months - I’ve had an order in for an M40i since the first week in September. The order has only this week been officially accepted by BMW (Status 111) but has no scheduled build date at this time. I keep telling myself that I wouldn’t drive it much over the winter anyway, but I’m now wondering if delivery next spring will happen!

I hope your car comes a bit sooner than indicated, but meanwhile it might be useful to keep this thread updated on any progress.

As mentioned. Plenty of delays. I ordered beginning on June and car is expected 2week of nov. 7 week delay.

I’ve been speaking to my dealer and they have serious issues with cars being delayed until next year.

Many thanks to everyone for the feedback.
I’ve had the same thoughts about limited use over the winter, but I keep remembering cold clear sunny days in previous winters when a top down journey was more than possible, had a M240i cab until March this year, but then went all sensible and swapped it for a 118i. Being sensible lasted 5 months before placing the order for the Z4 :-)
I’ll keep the thread updated on the progress of the build.
Will be counting the days!!

White, red seats… loaded but without shadow pack as I don’t like it on the white.

Do you know if March 22 is what is showing in the BMW Order system, or is that just a "guesstimate" from the dealer? I ordered my M40i in early September, but it is not showing any estimated build date on the order system yet (Status is 111 with no delivery schedule according to Genius team).
