What made me always want a 2 seat convertible.

In anticipation of finally getting my hands on a car that I have always wanted I watched the film (again) at the weekend, that planted the seed.
If not my favourite film of all time then certainly in my top 5.

The Day Of The Jackal.

Watching Edward Fox, the epitomy of a suave English gent, swanning around Europe in that little Alfa.
As a kid I thought he was the coolest thing ever.

Roll on Monday when I can don my cravat and sunglasses, haha

I dunno....The Italian Job didn't do a bad effort. Although I think Austin did better with sales of the Cooper!.

You are both a pair of arty farties, with ya boat tailed alfas

For me, well I've always wanted convertibles, but the film was The Gunball Rally with that mighty Cobra and Daytona soundtrack :driving:

I think The Professionals had more of an influence on me as I had a MK2 Escort RS2000 and a couple of 2.8i Capris in the 80s. :D

The shape of the Capris might explain why all my Z4s have been Coupes!

I had a 'thing' for the dolomite sprint when I was a kid, purely down to Doyle!
I also desperately wanted a Ford Gran Torino in red with a white stripe, jacked up leaf springs and Wolfrace slots....can't think why!

No you can stick your miserable Minis as far as I'm concerned. Dreadful things.

I'd much rather have the Lamborghini Miura, E-Type, Aston Martin DB or one of those black Mafia Fiat Dino Coupes thanks. :D

250 California but i always had a soft spot for the Triumph TR4, probably because it was a more realistic dream. Always said i would love to buy an old 2 seater from the 60s, stick it in a garage and spend my dying year working on it. but i need a garage first

Step into my office, I may have just the thing you are seeking!
I can build you a garage if it's a deal-breaker. :D

Watching that film made me want a Kawasaki kh400, I didn’t ride my one quite as badly though.

Lucky you, I couldn't stretch to the AC Cobra or Ferrari Daytona

I think for me (10 years younger than you?) it was probably things like the Dukes of Hazard and the fact that Capris were the closest thing you saw in the UK to a US muscle car in the 1980s. Around the time I started driving, 1991, there was a replica Corvette C3 that was parked up near my girlfriends house with a "For Sale" sign in the window - and to be honest the capris I had in my 20s were a (very much appreciated) affordable second best.

I always had a bit of a soft sport for Midgets and Spitfires, but MGB GTs and Triumph GT6's appealed more.

It's probably about 50/50 whether I ever own a 2 seater convertible, but if I do it might well something older than me, or a Z4 (because I love my Coupe) or MX5 (cheap and widely loved).

My Dad picked me up from school when I was 8 or 9 in a yellow Stag which he’d borrowed from my Aunties boyfriend. Roof down, loads of noise. Done.
