Does Anyone Know What This Is?
FWIW.. I had a battery issue with my car... main dealer had it in a couple of times for a coupe of days.... They found a 'Tracker' and said it was causing parasitic drain, as apparently it wasnt connected to BMW spec.. I asked for a written guarantee that the tracker was not activated..they couldnt do this.. so i made them remove mine and replace the wiring loom, as you never know who might be working at the 'tracker' company....They then replaced the battery with a larger capacity one...and no issues since....

Well I managed to get a good look at the black box:
Typing those number into google comes up with listings on ebay saying that it is a BMW 12V DC Battery control unit.
Still baffled by what it is, the ebay listing doesn't say anymore than BMW 12V DC Battery Control unit:

It’s got nothing to do with BMW...
It was made for Trafficmaster..
It bears non of the ‘classic’ bmw hallmarks
Not made out of cast alloy/bent steel
No bmw logos
No bmw part numbers
No proper mounting

Hi Silverstar, I'm waiting on delivery of a new (second hand) starter button as the ring around my one is in a tatty condition. So I'm looking for guidance on how to remove the panel that it sits in as I'm fairly sure I need to access it from behind rather than pull it out from the front (pretty certain I need to remove the entire housing to replace the ring as opposed to just the button).Silverstar wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2020 12:31 pm So I have been removing the dash panels (the long one for the passenger air vent and heater controls and the smaller one by the light switch in order to skin the aluminium trim in carbon fiber
Did you have a guide from the TIS to remove your one or maybe a video on YouTube? Does it just come off using a trim tool starting from the passengers door end and are there any screws or just clips? Do you need to remove the center console and ashtray first?
Cheers,
Mike

Yes I think in your case you will need to remove the panel and remove the starter switch from behind. The panel is held in by a combination of screws and some clips. See this video on Youtube for the best explanation of how to remove it. Two things though you can remove the radio surround trim without remove the centre console trim and the other thing is from memory in a RHD car I don't think I removed the trim around the ignition key port as is shown in the video.Kiwi_Mike wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 11:23 pmHi Silverstar, I'm waiting on delivery of a new (second hand) starter button as the ring around my one is in a tatty condition.
