Midlands Meet 29th dec 2018 10.30am

I have pondering about this and come to a few conclusions..
there are quite a few of us in the midlands, and despite that we seem to be struggling to sort some meets out.
Once upon a time, (goes wistful), i had a Lexus soarer and organised a few meets and i found folk coming from all over, we used to meet in various places, but the most common " gathering" was in pub car parks, for all the most obvious reasons, then of course we would amble inside for a beer and a meal if we felt inclined, they were very informal events and was a simple gathering of old and new freinds. I mention this as Christmas approaches, which gives us a reason and excuse for a little gathering on say boxing day ( for instance) but i see absolutely no reason to be waiting for summer to reappear before we venturing out again - do you ?
I am now at Burton on trent, but im not suggesting that as a focus, more a starting point because all we need is a nice pub ( preferably with a fire )and a menu and car park.
Like this one.. which i found as i nursed my new toy with binding brakes back from Manchester, it has a huge car park and the requisite fire and good food and a friendly place too.

But it can be anywhere = i think we all know pubs that would do the trick .. I just dont fancy curling up and waiting for summer to reappear - well .. do you ?? what do you think eh ?

great timing.... listen if you guys are up for it... lets don the jackets, get the brollies out and come to my place.... its quiet , plenty of parking on a sunday and we can all have a chin wag! Im in... even if only a few turn up.

my workshop is good location, its quiet, secluded and lots of parking, we can have a nice chin wag.... name ya date before xmas or just after !
sorry i couldnt make this happen in autumn as planned.... i had quite a few pull out and i never got round to a reschedule... i think if we all come with the attitude its going to freeze but lets huddle together and have a chat before xmas with like minded people we will be good to go!!

Will TRY to get some Tea and coffee going too... but cant promise... Will need everyone to chuck a quid in for a new if thats ok with everyone.... Just helps me cover my costs! Happy to look over peoples cars and give advise etc :-)

I dont know who typed this fist but ive put up a post literally around the same time as yours in my thread but will keep it here with yourself !!

and i will try and arrange some coffee but no promises  correction, the pub will..

I'm based in Oxford and back when I was a part of the e30zone when I had my e30 Alpina, I would go up to regular meets at Solihull at a big old Toby Carvery if memory serves me right.

As I'm almost next to the M40, it's pretty easy for me to make my way up to the Midlands. Because I've only had my Z4MR a couple of weeks, I am really keen to start to attends meets with the two "Zed" clubs as soon as possible. One reason I was helped with my car, was my health has improved enough tis year, that I can start attending meets and shows, as this has always been something I really enjoy and really missed when I was unable to own or drive a car responsibly.

Not bothered too much about pubs etc, but if there is somewhere where I am able to sit for a bit, I am happy to go where ever you guys think will be a safe spot to hold a meet.

Well welcome to the club! And I'm glad your feeling better now.
As for the pub thing, having been to a few like yourself down the years, the pub is an easy dry warm spot to continue too after you have stood in the car park looking at each others cars and frozen your arse off after a while. Pubs serve very fair coffee so let's not get bogged down with the pub concept too much. The idea is somewhere to park up and chat, we tried McDonald's last time but it seems after 90 mins they want you off the premises. As you say somewhere to sit that's dry and warm will be fine.

I'm open to this
I live in Brackley so a quick trip up the M40 is doable.
From my side if you suggest a few dates/times I can see if I'm free and I'll do my best to come
Not much time between now and Xmas though, bounce a few dates around, or just pick one and see what happens.?

I drive the Z'd in all weathers :driving: so that is fine, though rather be able to go in somewhere warm for beer, tea, cake.. once a bit of car viewing has been done.

Well done for taking on the organising... these things are painful to get going though really worth it once a few people attend

thank you - and yes your so right..
thanks for that, i will as soon as i get one or two up for it..
well thats two down the m40 way.. so far.

sat 29th dec is a maybe

That clear on my diary, so happy to commit to Sat 29th Dec.

Just a thought, but usually service stations are always an option. They will have plenty of parking/over flow parking so we can park together. Obviously there are normally seated areas inside them, where you can choose from a number of food places, or just eat your own. They won't be making a fuss to move us on and you know that there will be bogs you can use, without having to buy anything.

Also, as you get closer to the black country, it's pretty easy to get from the M40 to the M1, which are the main motorways that people would be using, so a service station on either one, would double as a good meet location.

Well Felix, that's thinking outside the box, that's never occurred to me ever... Service stations. OK I will put that into the options box too.

Thanks "RW" ,

It's kinda how meets use to happen in the 60's for the bike scene. Obviously they were cafe's like Ace Cafe and you would see bikes racing from one service stop to the next, hence you have the style of fast bikes known as Cafe racers.

These days, they are just service stations and can handle a big influx of cars and you have more room to sit inside.

I'm just glad that you don't think I'm being stupid by recommending them.

Hi all, sounds good for a meet. Could I throw this place into the mix. http://caffeineandmachine.com/
Has ample parking and quite often seems to have an interesting range of cars turning up. Also does food etc.

I have been reminded by a good freind that there is a good meet organised at donnington park on the 16th dec !
could be a good one - brekkie for around 150 across clubs so far :)
