Lurch/splutter once, when engine cold (sometimes)

Post by sp3ctre » Wed Jul 11, 2007 9:42 am

I have noticed a few times now, when setting off in the morning, that the engine will splutter/lurch for a split second just after I have set off (maybe driven 50 yards). Once it has done it, it is fine... and it doesn't cause me any problems, I just wondered what it could be... it's going in (not to main dealer) for a service on Friday, so I can ask them to look at it, I just wondered if any of you knew what it could be, so I can tell them what to look at?

Would it be due to Ethanol in the gasoline?

I had that problem as did a few others here in Canada. We all switched to Shell V-Power and the problem went away. That gasoline has 0% Ethanol in it....
The Z4M Roaster & Croup are gone!

Switching to V-power cured mine right away,
so if yours still persists, I it's likely something else.

What kind of milage do you have on her?
Maybe the MAF sensor needs cleaning.

30k miles so far... it's a 2004. Like I say, it only ever does it once, and always just after setting off when engine is cold

I occasionally get that too. I run Chevron Supreme. After the first corner it's warm enough that there's no problem.

Maybe you have to wait for all your sulfur build up to get cleared out.
