Performance figures ...

Post by Marky Mark » Thu Dec 20, 2012 3:12 pm

Thinking of moving from E86 to E89 maybe March, love the 3.0 litre sound and performance, but with pennies at a premium may sell and wait for a 28i. Question is, will I miss the performance as much as the sound track?? Ive checked out the BHP and 0-60 times but can't find any 0-100 times and in gear figures. The 28i has a lot more torque than both E86/ E89 30i, will this make up for lack of BHP.Any views welcome..

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I can't really say much about going from the 3.0 to the 2.8i. but i've just swapped my 2.3i E89 for the 2.0i and i'm over the moon, much more grunt low end than the 2.3i and even more of a growl too!
I decided to get a 2.0i with more extras on than a basic 2.8i and I'm one happy bunny :D

To be honest i dont think you would notice the difference in speed, although the 28i is down 20bhp it is also 2 cylinders lighter so the result is very similar speeds, however the delivery is completely different.

However you will miss the noise. I love the sound of my 35is but it is mainly exhaust noise as its turbo, i do miss the high reving BAARRRRPPP of my old 3.0si. When i drove the 28i there is no induction noise AND no exhaust noise!

still a nice car and i did heaviliy consider one...

The 28i is a great car. Plenty enough poke and lighter too than the 35i/35is. In your shoes I'd go 28i. I love my 35i, the sound is fantastic, along with DCT etc.. but you don't miss what you've never had. Just don't drive a 35i first or like me any other model simply won't do!

The new turbo 4 pots have very good performance and can't be compared to prior NA engines. The 28i is a quick car, go have a test drive! Most don't mind that it doesn't sound amazing, it has enough sound (plus a sound generator to make you feel better).

I'm loving my 3.0 and when I change in a couple of years I'm definately going for a 3.5 DCT - and if I can get the right colour/wheel combination I might just get a 3.5is.....

I've said on here before that I bought my first 3.0ltr zed as a modern day Big Healey - I still feel that my 3.0 E89 fills the same role.
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.
