Aero side skirts
Got the Aero sills installed.
Z4 Aero side skirts part #s
51 71 0 150 780,
51 71 0 150 781
It's a straight forward install, but thought I'd post a couple of points...
Removal
The external fasteners are obvious, & the first thing to tackle.
Once the fasteners are off, pull the OE sills straight out where they join the body (at the top edges front & back)
Then...slide the sill forward & it will come right off the hidden bayonet fasteners.
- clean the nooks & crannies thoroughly
Then remove the female part of the fastener from the body.
(the bayonet fasteners are one time use... new ones come with the sills)
Install
Transfer the weather strip from the OE to the Aero sill. (just pulls off)
It has some butyl inside & reseals just fine to the new sill, no need for more goop.
Install the *new* bayonet fasteners on the sill (c/w the female portion)
!!! before installing on the car!!!
You will likely have to trim the sill a little.
..right here at the back edge. (look at your OE sill & you'll see the difference)
- Then just snap them in place with the bayonet fasteners.
after snapped in, you can adjust alignment fore & aft by tapping the sill in the appropriate direction.
When aligned install the external fasteners & you're done.

Gawd, maybe I'll get those before the spoiler for a cosmetic mod. Just when I forget how sexy they are someone posts a pic

Excellent question....2 Zero wrote:Why isn't that standard on all Z4"s??

With unique bumpers, it's strange they didn't do something with the sills;
especially with these in the parts bin already.

Re: Aero side skirts
Nope. Those side skirts aren't standard on new Z4's/MZ4's. It's probably that so many people have seen the light and retrofitted those M side skirts that confused you.gajah wrote:hmm... i think it's standard for the new Z, mine is a 2005 Z so i still have the plain side skirts

Re: Aero side skirts
Why would they make them standard when people like us will pay them money to retrofit them?

Re: Aero side skirts
They don't look amber. I saw these on eas the other day but I don't think they have them for our parking lamps. I keep asking Tom and he keeps telling me they have the side marker bulbs. Sigh.

The side can be changed to a silver vision,
but the two in front are already clear... they have an amber reflector.

Re: Aero side skirts
Are you sure?? I looked real close (LOL) and it looks like the bulb is amber.
