For me, well I've always wanted convertibles, but the film was The Gunball Rally with that mighty Cobra and Daytona soundtrack :driving:
Watching that film made me want a Kawasaki kh400, I didn’t ride my one quite as badly though.

The shape of the Capris might explain why all my Z4s have been Coupes!
I think for me (10 years younger than you?) it was probably things like the Dukes of Hazard and the fact that Capris were the closest thing you saw in the UK to a US muscle car in the 1980s. Around the time I started driving, 1991, there was a replica Corvette C3 that was parked up near my girlfriends house with a "For Sale" sign in the window - and to be honest the capris I had in my 20s were a (very much appreciated) affordable second best.

I always had a bit of a soft sport for Midgets and Spitfires, but MGB GTs and Triumph GT6's appealed more.

It's probably about 50/50 whether I ever own a 2 seater convertible, but if I do it might well something older than me, or a Z4 (because I love my Coupe) or MX5 (cheap and widely loved).

My Dad picked me up from school when I was 8 or 9 in a yellow Stag which he’d borrowed from my Aunties boyfriend. Roof down, loads of noise. Done.

Never particularly wanted a convertible. Then I bought an ///MR such a fun car to drive, always with the roof down. So I bought an mx5 to replace it. Handles better sounds like a tractor. Just as much fun, but not nearly as practical. :D

[/quote] Well it was over 40years ago and my memory of it is a little jaded. And I don’t see many about to notice there was room in the back

Always had MG in my late teens early 20s, really wanted a 6 cylinder TR5. Probably what led me to my Z4 in later life
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.
