Front Bumper Replacement/Repair

Post by Smallsy99 » Mon Jan 27, 2025 8:06 pm

I had a very slow speed knock with another car that has cracked and misaligned my bumper. As well as creasing/cracking the paint.
I think I need a new bumper due to the damage. I took it to be looked at and the body shop also said I need a new set of grills, foam crash bar and a reinforcement bar as this has all bent. They quoted me £1650 for the work which is a lot…
Anyone in the southwest had experience with this kind of repair.

Front Bumper Replacement/Repair

My 3 Series got a tap in the rear in 2023 and the bumper cover had a couple of cracks like the ones on the top of your bumper. The body-shop I took it to said there was no way to repair the cracks, and yours has a split between the grilles so it definitely needs a new bumper although you might be able to track down a used one. If the crash bar and reinforcement are damaged they'd need replacing, although it wouldn't be visible if you didn't.

I got quoted £650 for a new rear bumper cover from BMW in primer. The total estimate was just over £2K but included nonsense like blending the paint on the wings and boot-lid which seemed a bit like overkill on an 18 year old car, and resulted in it becoming a Cat N. :(

Sadly the quote you have been given doesn't look outrageous but if you could find a used bumper and didn't replace everything else you ought to get below £1,000, especially if you find a bumper the right colour!
Coupes because stunning!

Not a very slow speed bump if you bent that bar..

The bumper can be repaired by a plastic specialist ..although as Mr Tidy points out a second hand one would work..

Buy second hand and just try BMW, they might no more expensive than a back street garage.
Some time ago they sprayed a rear bumper for me cost about £120.

I had someone reverse into front of my car as they couldn't get through barrier at work.
I pulled forward to help the person get through and got rewarded by them reversing without looking into my car.
