[e89 z4 35i] is it ok to use the same wheel and the same tire for front/rear

Nexen tyres are NOT cheap, Chinese 'ditchfinders'. They are perfectly good 'mid range' tyres.
We really need to ditch (pardon the pun) the 'tyre snobbery' attitude on car forums. You could be forgiven for thinking if a car doesn't have the 'latest and greatest, most expensive tyres available' that the car will slide off the road at any moment without warning. It simply isn't true.
I agree.

Please note, though, that I made no mention of 'Chinese' or 'ditches'. Why? Because I bought some Nexen, put them on a 4.2 Jaguar and they were OK. But no better than OK and I wouldn't buy any more.

OP, picking up from here ... if you lay on the ground to examine the tyres, specifically the inner and outer edges of the tyres, does it look like they're excessively worn on the edges ?

And please check the manufacturing date of each tyre. See image below. I'm with Pondoo, you're within operational range, except the rears are perhaps too small for that engine. If the tyres aren't too old, you may want to wait until the spring to get new rears.
I have already checked the manufacturing date and it is late 2022 (also the condition of the tyre is quite good). Since many people suggest that the rear tire is too small for N54, I will consider change the wheel+tyre for safety.

My biggest concern was that it would overwhelm the car's hardware, but I'm glad to hear that's not the case. :D

Just the tyres. Your 18" wheels suit the 35i very well (and don't crack).
But the j-value (about 8j? 8.5j? I heard of.) of the current wheel is small that it doesn't fit the wider tyre.

You need a 8.5J to 9.5J for a 255/35 18 tyre ..ideally 9J but not mandatory

I changed from 19 to 18 simply to eliminate the risk of cracking (5 cracks that had ‘reappeared’) following previous repairs. Also to improve ride comfort. I used standard Goodyear F1 Eagle non run flat. But as others have said, the 3.5i with DCT did not come with 19s as standard. The 18s I bought were 8J at the front (225/40) and 8.5J at the back (255/35).

I used Alloy wheels direct and you simply put your reg in and it tells you the standard and optional sizes for all the wheels. Plenty of others to choose from as well, just putting this here as an example

I’ve never heard of that site before. I’ll check it out, thanks!
