2025 Z4 Brake Lights
I recently purchased a 2025 Z4 and noticed that occasionally the brake lights will flicker on and off. It seems that the brake lights turn on by barely tapping the brake pedal, and when I take my foot off the brake pedal the brake light is not quite completely disengaged (hence the flickering). If I manually lift up on the brake pedal then the brake lights stay off, but not sure what the permanent fix is here besides taking to the dealer. Has anyone else experienced this?

How do you know this if you are driving.eecoog wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 4:46 pm I recently purchased a 2025 Z4 and noticed that occasionally the brake lights will flicker on and off. I first noticed when I was in my garage with the stick in the neutral position the lights were flickering on the back wall of the garage when my foot was off the brake pedal. While driving at night I can see the reflection off of street signs in my rear view mirror.

@EECOOG - Did you ever get this fixed?
I just picked up my 25 two weeks ago, it spent 3 days at the dealer trying to fix the brake lights malfunctioning.
Failure mode:
Without car running, rear brake lights seem to work fine.
When car is running, rear brake lights flicker or stay on constantly. Dealer replaced the BDC this week but its back as of yesterday.
Any help or advice you have EECOOG, I’d appreciate it.

Fixed!!!
For anyone that comes across this board or question, I was able to resolve the issue this evening.
If your brake lights seem very sensitive or stay on or flicker, check the brake light switch under the the drivers kick panel (it attached to the brake pedal arm).
My sensor (it’s a proximity sensor) was not seated into its bracket properly. With the brake pedal at its highest point this sensor should be touching or close to touching the tab that it interfaces with on the brake pedal arm.
Once I pushed the sensor into its bracket the brake lights worked properly!

Glad you were able to resolve your issue. Mine appears to resolve itself over time, I suppose with lots of brake pedal pushing in my daily commute. I'll also check the seating of the sensor this weekend if I can locate it in case it's still off a little (and in case I'm just unaware that I'm inadvertently brake-checking everyone behind me constantly lol).

Any chance you have a photo of what the sensor looks like? I tried my best to snap a photo of the brake pedal connections with my phone. See below:BMW Bros wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 1:28 am Fixed!!!

Hello EECOOG -
I do not have a picture, but I did do a quick internet search and found the below diagram which is similar to the layout/construction.
My advice would be to remove the kick panel cover and follow the brake pedal to where you find the first sensor / wire connection, maybe half way up the brake pedal stalk.
