Steering Rack

Post by Shakespeares » Sun Sep 01, 2024 4:54 am

Guys, seems my rack is gone. Cannot find a used one or extremely expensive (like 3000 USD). Anybody has any opinion on that? I am considering to get a z3/e46/e36 rack. Looks spline on those car are shorter than what we have?

The rack will not fit as the intermediate shaft is too big for the alternative rack. You can convert it to fit but I don't think the existing electrically powered upper steering column will have enough power to turn it. An interesting idea nonetheless! One option is to do the hydraulic steering column, will will cost far less than the $3000. But another route is the Chinese option if you can trust the quality. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006 ... d_source=4
