Frankenstein's bumper - possible/worthwhile?

Post by Calps » Fri Apr 26, 2024 12:03 pm

If I have two bumpers, both with damage, albeit in separate places, how likely is it that the two can be amalgamated into a single bumper by a body shop?

Context: One bumper is cosmetically good from the front, however the sections where it attaches to the wings and the wheel arch liners have damage (clips missing, parts of it are cracked/snapped off). The other bumper has frontal damage, however the side sections are completely intact, and my thinking is to use it as a donor.

(Obviously I will check this with a body shop before I take the plunge, but would welcome opinions in case it would be a wild goose chase, especially if anyone has experience with anything similar)

Probably not worth the cost of combining them to be honest unless it’s an M front bumper or something.

You would have to post some pics.

As said, it’s the labour charge which will be the sting here.

It is possible, the bumpers can be cut, plastic welded, sanded, filled, primed and painted.

The cost of the above is likely far more than the cost of a new one, or second hand replacement.

If it’s a super rare part and very expensive, it could be worth it.
