Meds 3.0si Coupe - Update: Coding
My new bike rack arrived so a quick test fit was in order:
This has been keeping me awake at night so it was time to address:
A new wing has turned up from BMW and I plan to get this painted and fitted within a few weeks. But we all know how putting timelines on DIY jobs, working around general life responsibilities, is a bad idea.

That is suspiciously clean for a cross bike with that level of shifter tilt
Lovely setup - what make/model, and do the wiper arms clear it? I have similar, albeit the front is a large singular cup so it has to go on the roof instead of the windscreen.

That's a good point about the wipers.
This was a test fitting to check location and I will move it backwards onto the roof panel if I need to..
Annoyingly, the rear suction cup is refusing to suck. So a replacment is on the way.
Regarding the cleanliness. It had it's 6monthly clean a few weeks back, as it was being used for road duties recently.
It's never that shiny.! It had a coat of Soft99 Fusso after it's last clean, too.

Looks good with the bike on the roof. Have you used it in anger yet?
I’ve test fitted mine, but am yet to use it. The Seasucker is actually a bit awkward to use with the bubble roof so my bike is at a bit of a jaunty angle.

That's interesting about the SeaSucker and a reason why I didn't opt for that design as I thought it might sit odd.
Thanks for the info.
Nope, not used yet. To be honest it'll probably be a while before it's used on the Z4 as I'll only use it when I need to cycle back from my mechanic. Rarely.
It was mainly purchased for use on my Touring with a huge flat roof. (But still used yet)

Could you turn the bike around so it's facing backwards, SeaSucker on the rear screen?

Love this combination of colours and mechanical parts. The wheels, spacers, callipers and discs work perfectly together.

I used it for the first time today and it was fine to be honest. I did stop a few times to make sure it was Ok.Meds wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 9:33 am That's interesting about the SeaSucker and a reason why I didn't opt for that design as I thought it might sit odd.

Mine will be used pretty regularly, but I’ll steal the touring for longer trips and use the tow bar carrier.

I dropped the new rear arch to the bodyshop.. They took a reading from the door and will match best they can, if after fitting it's not absolutely bang on, they will blend into the door at a later date. Nice.

Meds 3.0si Coupe - Update: Rear panel paint
The new rear wing has been painted. Damn, Montego Blue is a lovely colour.
Placing the unpainted filler cap in the hole it seems the match is bang on from all angles. But real proof is when I get it installed which will take me a good few weeks as I have a busy schedule, annoyingly.
If I need to return to get it blown into the door, sill and the filler cap, he's ready for me.
The paint shop has stored the left over paint.

Looks like a good job….its a lovely colour.
Whilst detailing mine I’ve found a few tiny bits of corrosion starting to appear which will get sorted in due course.

Yeah, they're at that age.
Where you got it? Outer arches?

You’ll be surprised what it looks like on the inside. a small blister hides a big secret. They rust from the inside out.

Oddly, not really in the usual places.
There is a tiny bubble on the rear arch where it meets the bumper, pretty much in the middle of the s**t line, a little bit on the drivers door under the trim and the worst bit is on the bottom edge of the passenger door (that bit I did know about).
They’re getting old now and are of the E39/46 e4a which wasn’t known for it’s resistance to corrosion.

I had some odd exhasut related issues appear last weekend, to cut a long story short my car sounded like a 70yr old tractor after hitting a load of standing water on the way to Ultimate BMW. The noise sorted itself after a few minutes. It happened again on the way home after another large area of standing water.
It sounded like the exhaust fell off. It sorted itself after 5 minutes. Very odd.
Theory is the sudden cold water was enough to rapidly shrink the manifold<>centre join gasket and cause the blowing. Then when it heated up, the gap closed up.
And earlier in the week I started to notice some whistling from under my feet on engine braking.
I took it in to my guy, he found the gaskets and flanges were falling apart, corroded.
The studs were grinded and drilled out, flanges cleaned up and new gaskets installed.
It's loads better. Fixed. It's actually quite surprising how much now the exhaust noise is at the rear of the car, rather than escaping from underneath.
