Karbonius Race Airbox

Post by RedUn » Wed Apr 10, 2024 11:54 pm

Just installed the karbonius race this evening but have 2 questions if anyone can help...

1. This circular valve which normally clipped on to the side of the original airbox, how have you secured it, I can see there's a mount on the airbox but it would sit vertical not horizontal?

2. No picture, below the airbox, above the dipsick, there's another valve which is rubber mounted and slides on to a tab under the original airbox, again, I can see there's a tab on the karbonius but it's 90degress out, so rather than sitting parallel to the engine it would sit square to it. How have you mounted that one also?

In the mean time I've cable tied while I get mapped but I'm not happy with a cable tie solution and maybe I'm being a bit thick! :D

Thanks!

The bracket under the filtered section maybe incorrectly installed, mine has no issue fitting that solenoid

The other solenoid for the brake booster feed just hangs.

Thanks for reply.

The one under the airbox, you just rotated it 90 degrees and pushed onto the tab?

I am waiting delivery of my box towards the end of the month - did yours come with no hole for the IAT sensor?

Had the car mapped today, curve and results all good until just over 6000rpm and then it pulls timing heavily, something like 17 degrees vs stock which is 27 degrees.

Anyone come across that before? IAT sensor was checked and scaled correctly?

Will PM you.

I'm slowly going through it replacing bits before I confirm if their map is the problem...

Plugs & coil packs done, HELLA IAT due anytime to compare to the FAE one I have and new widebands on way

Some further updates on this, replying here just so the useful info is on the forum for anyone in the future.

Lesson number 1, IATs are not created equal, I had an FAE CSL scaled one and swapped for a Hella with the same scaling. On a cold day the difference between them was nearly 5%. Car runs better with the Hella  edit to add, car runs roughly 10degs above ambient at normal road speeds.

Lesson number 2, coil packs and plugs, might not be giving any spurious CELs or running issues but they can cause a problem. 2 of the coils had quite different resistance readings to the other 4 once I removed them and got them on the meter. Plugs looked OK but no point doing half a job. Full new set in, again, car much better at high rpm.

3. Not confirmed yet, but from logging fuel trims and lambda voltages, I think one of the lambdas is on its way out. New ones here, mission to fit with the exhaust on the car so will tackle that once the weather warms up and report back.

Hopefully helps any future people out 8)
