Z4 Coupe E86 - Montego Blue OEM+
As I start getting into Z4 ownership more I thought I would take lead from a few others on here and update the ownership & ask questions where assistance is needed. I plan preventive maintenance, cleaning and hopefully some great driving days.
I tend to own my cars for a good 3 - 4 years before being ready for the next venture, my past cars are;
Many 106 Rallyes (S1 / S2, 8v / 16v), Honda Integra Type R (DC2), Lotus Elan M100 Turbo, Suzuki Ignis Sport, Alfa Romeo GTV V6, Saxo Ph1 VTR, Audi TT 225, MR2 Mk3, Civic Type R (EP3), Few Skoda Octaivia VRS's.
I currently own a tidy Renault Sport Clio Ph1 172 https://www.instagram.com/clio172ph1/ along side the more recent Z4 Coupe.
Having just sold a rather nicely modified 106 Rallye to Dream Car giveaways (https://dreamcargiveaways.co.uk/competi ... ye-s1-1000) I was looking for a different type of replacement. I tried the usual routes of S2000, Lotus Elise and seriously considered the Porsche Cayman. Though not feeling quite ready for Porsche ownership, I looked upon the Z4 Coupe after being rather fond of them for many years. I found it offered me what I was looking for, a powerful engine (N52) with a great noise, fanatics looks, quite rare and sporty with what appears to be reasonable running / maintenance costs.
In searching for a Z4 coupe I was looking for one that was well cared for and pampered. Having viewed a couple I hadn't quite found what I was looking for, though knew I definitely wanted a coupe. After putting up a wanted add on here for a non silver / black car with individual leather, 108s and a few added options I was contacted from someone which had one which ticked the boxes. In all honesty bar 1x option it had everything I wanted from a Coupe.

Z4 Coupe E86 - Montego Blue OEM+
After the usual 1st car check over with a wash & polish etc I didn't really find anything that required any attention.
1st off I went and replaced the licence plates with a new set. Straight to Retroplates (https://www.facebook.com/retroplates/) for the best quality and service. We used the front plate details to replicate the rear. The car had no supplying dealership as it was directly from BMW.

The large whippy aerial was removed and placed into storage for a future owner. This was replaced with the common BMW stubby for a more neater look to the rear. Surprisingly reasonably priced from the dealers.

Some decent motors in your back catalogue Kenich.
Always great see enthusiasts coming into the fold. As we know Z4’s may not be perfect but they’re great motors and definitely stand out from the usual go-to’s.
Welcome Kenich and look forward to your updates

Looks great.
I’ve used Retro Plates for the Park Lane plates for my old 335i and will be using them again in due course for plates for my coupe, which also appears to have been a BMW UK car.
Have you managed to pair your phone with tier nav system yet? I can’t seem to get mine into pairing mode.

Good to hear, their plates are great and they will have the details of those plates on file to. And yes, the phone paired up successfully. I had to google how to do it but it works everytime I use the car which is good.STC_Zed wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 12:37 pm Looks great.

I also have a funky phone holder connection in the rear compartment, which tempts me to pop some retro Sony Ericson in there.
Thank you, I do like my cars as you can probably tell.LawrenceW wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 12:34 pm Some decent motors in your back catalogue Kenich.

The original handbrake gaiter was looking faded and slightly let the interior down, so I ended up replacing that & then naturally the gear gaiter to match. I went for a classic cream stitch to match the piping on the champagne piped BMW carpet mats.
While doing that it only felt right to install a new BMW ZHP gear knob. Lovely feel and action due to the increased weight of the shifter.
My M sports steering wheel is in lovely condition, however, I would love to now get matching cream stitching. Maybe later in the year....

Being fussy I got a set of BMW rubber mats to protect the original champagne mats (Which are in fantastic condition). I then noticed Lucas on here selling another set of champagne mats (also great condition), so I bought & used those use while I popped the original ones up in the loft for safe keeping.

Any chance you could let me know the process for pairing a phone? All mine seems to say is activate phone, but it’s not discoverable on my phone. The lack of phone capability is a bit annoying.Kenich wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 12:54 pmGood to hear, their plates are great and they will have the details of those plates on file to. The front support brace behind the grille was flaking, it still had the OE BMW stickers on but needed a tidy.
Rather than wrap / rattle can the part I had it powder coated with a load of other bits for my Clio. Fitted with some new stainless fixings.
Also fitted a gloss black grille as the original grey / chrome one wasn't to my liking. I'd of rather satin but couldn't find one, plus easy to get painted at some point.
