Alloy wheel refurb

Post by Rockhopper » Fri Mar 01, 2024 6:36 pm

I had my wheels refurbished a few years ago now at a reputable place in Mansfield. They convinced me that modern paint was as good as powder coating.
So two years down the line I've got stone chips all over my wheels and bubbling around the centre caps and bolt holes where the weather has got under the paint.
So would powder coating have lasted longer? Wouldn't it just scrape off where the tapered seat of the bolts touch it and then the weather gets in? Is it more resistant to stone chips?
How long would you expect a powder coated wheel to last?

Powder coat is a much more durable finish. The paint goes on in powder form then baked in the oven to liquify. This gives a lovely smooth hard coat.
Powder coated wheels l should last a good 8 years plus.

We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

I had my wheels acid dipped and powder coated in April 2021 and they still look as good as when I fitted them. :D

Somehow I don't think they would if they had been painted.
Coupes because stunning!
