Car been off road for 3 months and counting

No consolation to you but insurance companies are starting to write off cars that can be repaired because the cost of hiring a replacement car whilst waiting for parts is uneconomical. What a green world we live in......... :?

Doesn’t surprise me. If this was an insurance claim, the 5 months of a rental would have been 10k alone.

I know that’s why EV cars are so expensive to insure as parts are a nightmare and if the battery damaged then it’s a write off instantly.

And of course we all pay for it :headbang:

Everyones car insurance seem to be doubling this year because of it.

2 years ago my insurance for my JCW was £440 last year it was £670 this year £940. I reduced the milage this year to reduce it the renewal was £1100.

Not looking forward to the Zs renewal.

On average it has doubled. It’s crazy money now to insure cars.

Quick update again. BMW parts issues continue with the last estimate of the part arriving in Germany last week not happening. Now they are saying end of this week to reach Germany. Let’s see.

Another update. Parts arrived in Germany and heading to uk! Week or so and I should have car back! Finally !

Update again. Parts arrived and being fitted today and tomorrow.
I’m away now so won’t collect for 10 days.

Light at the end of the tunnel! Finally!

TF for that, now the big compo claim

How would start to calculate compensation? They have given you a car to use while yours in the garage, you are not necessarily out of pocket per se, just inconvenienced.

Anyway good news that you will get your car back, just in time for spring

Let’s see what goodwill they offer. If it’s not satisfactory, I will go down the small claims road.

Well yes im out of pocket. I pay for a 3 litre turbo 2 seater convertible and I’m getting a 3 series diesel. Hardly the same is it?

It’s like going to a restaurant and ordering a steak, paying for a steak, but getting fish served. You hate fish, but technically you have been fed.
Now you have to go back to the same restaurant every day and have fish for 5 months.

A week or two waiting for a part is fine. 5 months is a joke.

Yeah, at least extend everything you’ve paid for by the period it’s been off the road as a starting point :P

Was in a meeting earlier, catch up soon

Yep, warranty and other subscriptions should should be extended as a starter.

What will be interesting is how they deal with the time based service intervals?

Take it for a good drive and make sure everything is as it should be  I`m sure it will be but worth checking .

Great to have it back I'm sure, any talk of compensation etcetera?

Well, funnily enough I had an email for bmw customer services offering me £500 “store credit”. Ie I can use it at any bmw dealership for servicing or lifestyle products.

I have replied and told them to recalculate or I will go to the ombudsman. Under the rules that they signed up to, they have to have spare parts for cars and nearly 5 months waiting for a part is surely a breach.
