Another update - today off with the winters and back on the with the summer wheels, five miles later we have fully operational tyre pressure monitoring system, woohoo.
This is a system designed by a greedy unprincipled muppet, if a sensor goes down, the whole system goes down and there's no way of knowing which of the four sensors has failed until a BMW service centre analyses it, and what's the betting they only fail after your warranty runs out!
About to order a set of four genuine BMW sensors and if anyone is interested the part number is 36106877937

Argyll Andy “lost” an ultrasonic sensor..took out no end of systems…

So the OEM BMW sensors work okay and the cheap non OEM sensors don’t?

Hi I just wondered how much BMW quoted you for the sensors. I am in the process of looking at Winter Alloys and Tyres for my M40i. My husband just changed his 3 Series Alloys for Winters and BMW wanted over £800 for a set of new sensors.sars wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 8:56 pm Another update - today off with the winters and back on the with the summer wheels, five miles later we have fully operational tyre pressure monitoring system, woohoo.

I paid £85 for four sensors off eBay, supposedly genuine with BMW written all over them, link below
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334848668996 ... media=COPY
The sensors hadn't actually failed per se, the guy at my local tyre place who replaced them said he checked them and all were transmitting. The only thing that makes sense is that as the battery voltage deteriorates I think the signal strength may also get weaker until they can't be picked up and the system crashes.

As I've just discovered, not only will they happily fail within the warranty period, but they're considered a wear item and so are chargeable. Eighty quid a pop from the dealer "after a 20% discount", but at least they're not charging labour as a gesture of goodwill since it failed literally the day after they changed the tyre on that corner during its 2-year service... Hrmph.
