You do seem to prefer it though!

But everything comes at a price.
Yes Mr Tidy and cars are an expensive game whichever way you do it as you say annoyingly!

They are our passion/hobby though, so I guess we turn a bit of a blind eye to it. :)

You should buy hobby cars for the fun. Buy rare supercars for keeping, not using and making money. Old beemers, other than very exceptional older (desired) Ms, 507s,etc, will
never make string money and certainly no return. When I come to sell ZM in perhaps 8 years time I expect to have forked out a minimum of £2000 a year just to keep it taxed and maintained. I don’t expect to get it back. I also expect it to lose about 10% of its value in real terms, perhaps more if the petrol market dies. While I love the car most guys don’t want the hassle of driving it sadly. And in comparison to moderns it’s awkward/ thrilling/delete as appropriate

The problem is that you have garaged models that are looking great underneath even though they are 17 years old, and you have outside parked and are bad underneath and need a lot of work.

However, people want the same top money for them

£28k…. I’d be amazed if anyone fronts up anywhere near that for it.

Asking prices are one thing.
I remember paying £14.5k for mine with 38k miles on it back in 2012. So basically they haven't lost any money in the intervening years, plus the really nice ones have appreciated too.

This post isn’t aimed at you specifically LeeZ4MR, more a general observation

Why? …Because you miss it or because it’s held its money better than than the 370Z? Which do you prefer driving?

I think Mr Wilks has a point but, unless you’re a trader (or wannabe trader), It’s all relative.

If the second hand car market is in decline, the decline will affect ‘most’ cars, some worse than others of course.

So a fall in values may be of benefit if you want to move up in price terms. A 3.0 E85 will still decline, it’s just got less far to fall than a Z4M or Alpina so the % might be the same but the £’s less.

It’s all very well saying values may be a lot lower next year, and they might be - but who knows if they’re going be here tomorrow, let alone in 2024!

Unless you bought your Z4M etc as an investment (which is not a great idea), don’t rush out and sell it - just enjoy it. A case in point is the E86 3.0Si in the classifieds for £25k because it’s only done 16k miles - hasn’t been enjoyed, not worth anywhere near the asking price, never going to be an investment.

An important thing to remember is, it all comes down to the price to change.
if values fall, you get less for yours, but pay less for the replacement.
i am considering a change in the spring, but wish i was a cash buyer without a car to sell as there are some decent deals to be had, but i have to sell mine first to take advantage of these deals, and what you think you have gained on your new choice, you then loose out on what you get for yours.

As if by magic - I’m current at the NEC Classic car show and just spotted this Z4MR….Also ref current market conditions I’ve just spent 2 hours at the Iconic Auction and most cars were selling circa 15-20% less than estimate or not meeting their reserve including desirable stuff. Didn’t see what the Z3MC S54 went across the block for but it was lovely

I think whoever typed that was reading off the V5!

My first Coupe was Ruby Black but showed Red on the V5. Previous owners OH apparently got stopped twice over that, but thankfully I never did. :)

And FWIW even £15,950 seems pretty strong money to me at that mileage.
Coupes because stunning!

I would agree 14.5/15 is probably the max especially this time of year.

No surprises but the market is also very fickle/trend led - that Z3MC sold for 60k at the weekend at the NEC classic car on site auction.

It was very nice, one of the rarer later ones with the S54 engine, plus rare colour, 44k miles but 60k was strong money.

I knew they weren't cheap, but that sounds like strong money even for a low mileage example with the S54. While the colour may be rare I'd much rather have an actual colour!
