E85 3.0 Max Wheel Width Without Mod

Post by Jstilley » Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:54 pm

Recently acquired a 2003 Z4 E85 3.0. I currently have stock wheels F8x18/R8.5x18

I'm looking to add wider rear wheels up to 9.5x18 but don't quite understand what offset I would need.

I'll likely keep the front wheels at the stock size or go up to 8.5x18

What is the maximum tire size I can go up to withiut modification? I'm trying to just order wheels with tires installed and throw them on.

Any insight would be appreciated so I don't have to go back and forth with shipping and returning.

The E85/86 shells are all the same size so 9.5" rears should be OK. My MC came with CSL Reps that were 9.5J on the rear and they didn't rub, although Ms have different offsets (ET, or IS in BMW speak).

I am in the process of upgrading to track wheels that are 9x17 ET38. I have only got 1 fitted (to the front) at the moment as I bought one to test the fit and check rubbing before buying the other 3. I put a 245/40/17 tyre on the wheel that is fitted and get no rubbing at all with stock suspension.

I think it's just a case of using willtheyfit.com like Mr Tidy said and comparing it to the stock sizes (225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear) and not going too crazy.

I would go for this set up as well (18x10 ET40) and the Bbs ch are fitting so well. Did you use some spacers ?
I Will pick my set of Bbs ch this week end, I Will share some pics then.
Thanks

No spacers on mine. If you ran a 5mm it would probably scrub
