Excessive wind noise between hardtop and windshield

As we head to winter, it is time to pull out the hardtop. This issue has been discussed multiple times here before and referred to the following registered defects:

I already ordered part 63 12 1 387 311 which is an E36 headlight gasket used as a filler piece to resolve this. Is there a specific way to install the filler piece? it says to install it on the left and the right, so i would essentially have to cut it to size. is it as simple as shoving it between the gap of hardtop and windshield before locking it in place or must i somehow bond/shove it into an existing weatherseal?
