Post by ggmiller » Mon Sep 25, 2023 4:22 pm

Been ok last few years apart from handbrake ratchet being worn….. wish us luck!

Washed and ready for MOT!

Looks great! Can I just check if you have the same issue with your handbrake as mine? Mine goes up about 40-50% of the way and I’ve taken it to RBM who’ve said that some of the teeth in the ratchet looks like it’s broken off?

Just wondering whether it’s a straight MOT fail or if there’s some leeway here.

Yep - same problem!

Not got round to doing anything with it as I only get an advisory and the cost for the repair keeps creeping up due to scarcity of parts - should have done it ages ago when it would have been £100!

Would you be able to report back once you’ve had the MOT done? Fingers crossed for you mate because as you said the repair costs can be a little high to replace the handbrake and I’m also hoping it’ll be an advisory for my MOT in November!

If there's still teeth at the top of travel then you'll get away with it most of the time. They wear away over time when people don't press the button. You can re-profile them with a Dremel from above if you like a challenge.

Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

Use your wifes mirror in the morning. Apparently it can knock 20 years off.

Hope she sails through OP.
