Ceramic coating care

Had my G29 ceramic coated and the warranty comes with a lengthy manual on care. Anyone offer some simple tips/guides to how to look after the coating best?

What ever brand of coating used wash with their shampoo.

Hi,
Good prewash and rinse will help the longevity and most times that’s all you need, i.e., touchless wash. Decontamination wash from time to time. Some brands have toppers to boost the top layer, some have it included in the shampoo. I have Gtechniq that uses the latter approach: their ceramic shampoo really boosts the performance for months.

Be careful with snowfoams as some will strip ceramic coatings as will certain traffic film removers.

I’m not being funny, but if you’ve paid to have a professional coating applied is it not worth reading the supplied instructions?

Did the specialist who applied it not give you any verbal guidance?

PH Neutral shampoo and touchless drying. Also, as True-Blue says be careful which snow foam you use. An alternative to touchless drying is to use filtered water for the final rinse.

The manual which is as long as Jeffrey Archer book is something that I have indeed read cover to cover. It was the recommendation to use snow foam that threw me as I recalled reading that people don't think this is a good idea. Hmmm.......... I may just have a cup of coffee at the coater and see what they think!

Had ceramic coating on my 718 Boxster for the near 3 years I owned it and have it on my G29 for just over 2 years.

Unless incredibly dirty, all I ever do is rinse, snow foam and leave 5 minutes and rinse again. Both cars have been perfectly fine and both sit outside in Scottish winters.

The problem with snowfoam is that there are many different formulas and some (I believe) are alkaline (like TFR) and so will strip Ceramic coatings. I would have thought the detailer who applied it can give you specific info on what to use.

PH neutral snowfoam would ‘probably’ be absolutely fine.

Thank you True-Blue you are correct. I am new to both snowfoam and ceramic coatings and I have had a chat to my coater and you are absolutely correct. A PH neutral snowfoam is the thing to use and when it stops raining I'll give it a go.

Can I ask a further question? Mine has a ceramic coating but I can no longer go to the person who applied it as he's miles away - I bought the car form another person. Can you apply ca straight canuaba wax to it without damaging the coating? I would not yet use a cleaner/polish type wax. and can you use a clay bar and rapid detailer? As you can see, first time experience of ceramic!

Hi,
If the ceramic coating is still there, carnauba wax would struggle to stay on. You’d be better off doing a deep decon wash and by applying a relatively generic topper product like Cancoat. Or, you could contact the previous owner to find out which coating you have and find a local shop with the same product line do the job.
