Towbar install!

Hi all I’m being very silly and optimistic here but I’ve just bought a little jet boat in time for New Zealand summer and would love to tow it with the z4 is this a possibility boat weighs around 700 kgs incl. trailer. Is there anyone who’s even had a tow bar on thier one?

I hadn't even realised they did towbars for the Z4! I imagine it would drag a jetski around without batting an eyelid. I've towed stuff for years with a 3 series and RWD is just perfect for doing so compared to FWD things scrabbling to get off the line.

I looked at this a while ago. This applies specifically to the UK, so you will need to check if it the same where you are.

The E89 was never type approved for towing, so whether it is capable or not, no tow bars are available. You MAY be able to find / make one to fit, but your insurance will be invalidated as it isn't approved.

There is a standard BMW tow bar kit for the E89..whether any are still in stock in a warehouse somewhere I don’t know..if you need the part number let us know..

Thanks for the insight I do believe that it will be an issue legally in nz insure would remain in place I think but would be hard to pass our equivalent of a m.o.t

Is the bmw part number known for this?

That looks like a standard towbar, but the page says it is suitable for a cycle carrier only, so was I right that the E89 is not approved for towing and your insurance would be invalid in the UK?
