Air bags - non deployment.

Post by ronk » Tue Aug 15, 2023 10:57 pm

Just had a call re an old pals car accident.

I seems he had a sudden and unexpected blackout and went through a dry stone wall and then hit a tree which eventually stopped him. He was of course belted in . Him and his wife are are now in hospital and his car, a Vauxhall Mokka Type thing is completely knackered of course.

However, the Air Bags did not deploy.
A significant collision yet no SRS Just when you need it - I’m confused.

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

ooof, hope both make a full recovery!

how old was the car? i know airbags get worse with age, older than 10 years and i would doubt their reliability, unfortunately...

I've noticed in a few Z4 accident pics that have been posted there has been no airbag deployment. I think their life is ten years although someone was saying BMW have extended that date. A twenty year old car would be written off if all the bags needed replacing!

That's a worrying scenario given the age of both my cars!

I just hope they both make a speedy, and full, recovery.

I spoke to the chap today - he’s awaiting the fitting of a pacemaker and is in hospital bruised and shook up.

He’s no spring chicken and I suspect it will take a while to get over the event.
