Bought a bit of a dog

Post by Rigmover » Sun Jul 23, 2023 5:53 pm

Hi from Vancouver Island,

Just bought a 2004 Z4, 2.5 which is a bit of a project, its been neglected for a while and has quite a few of the normal faults, high milage, intermittent steering issues, leaks coolant, faded paint, challenged interior, roof motor not working, but a really fun car.

Ive started a minor refurbishment, touched up the paint and clear coat with moderated success, its now a five foot car, will do it properly over the winter. Ive recently removed the steering motor and am “Trying” to ship it to the UK for repair, the shipping fees are pretty amazing. Unfortunately though the authorities have classified it as dangerous cargo. Ive tried shipping it twice now and its been returned both times with a sticker stating it cannot be shipped by air. Looks like Im going to have to get a used one from ebay in US and hope it works.

Next on the list is the leaky expansion tank, Ive got a replacement tank and hoses on order, after that the roof motor.

Bill

Welcome to the forum. Sounds as though you have yourself quite the project, but once sorted you’ll have a lot of fun on those Vancouver Island roads, I’m sure.

I was out that way a few years ago in Tofino, and stayed the Wickaninish Inn. Felt like we were staying at the end of the Earth during a stormy April. Glorious roads there and on the trip back across the Rockies to Calgary. Shame I was in some sh*tbox rental, but fun all the same
